Zoness posted:nekroz (the best deck about a year? ago) was not like this at all - the deck was very redundant in its tutoring engines which worked out of the hand and graveyard and played consistently regardless of opening hand. It's been a lot longer since I followed the game, Nekroz and Infernity weren't out. The most obvious stacking I remember was a staple 1-of called Trap Dustshoot, which let you shuffle a card from your opponent's hand back into their deck, but only if they still have at least 4 cards in hand, which in Yugioh they rarely would after a turn or two. Somehow pro players all found it in their opening hand about 50% of the time. (Apparently that particular card is now banned.)

It's a super Timmy mechanic that has all of the parts casuals will want to use as double-rares and they made the front sides of parts of both of those actually good so they're likely to be kind of expensive.

Speaking of Incinerate, is it just me or are they really cutting back on Regeneration these days? There were like 3 cards total that Regenerate in BFZ block and zero so far in SOI.

I don't think thalia leveled enough vitality for a dex/faith build that's using Tranquil Walk of Peace. She should really look into using Wrath of the Gods instead. That said I know my gimmick for my next dark souls 3 character now.

The best card draw in standard is black, green has no rampant growth or llanowar elves, and cheap red burn can't hit players. Idk how white and black change in this though

Incinerate is too good but apparently a card that's 3/4ths Baneslayer in a format where the removal isn't even remotely comparable to BSA's time is A-OK. They could've at least bumped the toughness up to 4 to make it modern playable

Errant Gin Monks posted:I'm stoked for meld. It may be very cool. I just have concerns about how well its going to be received, even as a casual-focused mechanic. If little Timmy opens Bruna, he's gonna say "hey what does Gisela do?!" and then find out its a $20 Mythic Rare, and even then, he has no idea what the reverse side does without looking it up because of the way the double-card is designed. That was partially why I initially had believed it might just have a single reverse side, or they'd have identical reverse sides and you just stacked them (the other reason being its ugly and takes up space). The only meld the average player is ever gonna pull off is Chittering Host.

I really like meld as a mechanic. It's the best way to do the whole merge-creatures-together effect. It's very flavorful and looks like it's going to play well. But I just know the jumbo-sized top half of the card is going to look ridiculous. I also keep going back to this, but if I was in charge of printing meld, and the mechanic needed to be on some amount of rares, I'd only make one side (the side with the melding ability) rare and keep the other side uncommon at most*. That way it plays better in limited. As it is, the black common melded creature will be the one on the table in 95% of limited games, and that's going to taint the reception of it. I could see getting lucky and getting the Hanweir one. The red rare is probably a first pick, and the land seems like one of those middle-of-the-pack rares that I'll end up with eight of stuck in my binder. But yeah, mostly it's going to be a Chittering Host, and people are going to complain about only ever seeing that one. * Except for awesome flavorful things like Brisela which obviously can't happen at uncommon.
