native trees are really weird, yeah, i've tried being nice to them and giving them lots of space and i've tried planting them in a big-rear end row like i'm running a paper farm, and nothing really seems to affect the overall growth rate on the larger scale. if anyone's done anything that is reliable in making things grow on the ~week scale i'd sure like to know it.

the general advice i follow is to chop any adult tree on my land down but leave the saplings alone. you're going to need an absolute freighter full of wood in the game so there's no sense in stunting your income of it. when i start slamming out a few tappers i'll put them on a couple of trees on my property. during the first winter when things generally all die and i get around to clear-cutting, i'll reserve a tree-farm on my land and get ready to move the tappers up there. at that point anything in the southern forest is just wood for me and i'll happily chop it down the second they're grown.

Just started this game yesterday, and I'm pleased as punch with my purchase. Will ignoring friendship/fishing early in the game bite me later? I've been focusing on getting deeper in the mines and maintaining just enough crops to give me a steady cashflow without draining more than an hour or two in the AM.

I didn't touch friendships until the first fall, when I started having enough cash to pull "Abigail and Krobus love pumpkins? Okay, 2 people, 2 gifts per week, 16 weeks... time to grow 64 pumpkins so I have sufficient bribe material for the next year." Almost everyone loved me by the end of year 2. (Sunday - check crops, check travelling cart, bribe Wizard, bribe towards the northeast. Convenient because 1/3 of the population hits the church. Monday - check crops, bribery express. Tuesday - clean up anyone I missed. Mine or fish for the rest of the week.)

It's actually good to leave making friends until your second or third year. You won't unlock all the villagers until at least Year 2, plus having a year to set up your farm without filling your plate up means that in later years you can set goals like befriending all the villagers and cooking all the recipes. It's not to everyone's tastes (some people like to socialise to unlock the rewards quicker) but I enjoyed having a reason to keep getting up and going wandering through town once my farm became more automated.

I took the octopath less travelered,

And it made one-eighth the difference.
Just give everyone sashimi. Easy to convert your crab pot fish into it (as well as any low-value fish you fish up), and only a few people hate it (and those that do like mayonnaise anyway, which you can get with an egg-laying chicken, L2 Farming, and a few basic mine resources). Only requires the first house upgrade (which granted will take awhile when new to save up the money and wood) and getting Linus to 3 hearts (which is pretty easy because he's happy to get pretty much any forage you find).

Until you can make mayo/sashimi, just focus on gifting the characters you actually like. Be sure to give them a gift they love (or at least like if their loves are a pain to get, looking at you Alex) on their birthday since it gives a huge amount of relationship points.

Or just completely ignore the people you don't want to deal with. You don't need to be friends with everyone (or anyone) in the town, all you miss out on are recipes, cutscenes, and sometimes random items.

I purge everything and replant all the trees at the end of every season. most are full grown and some are still just seeds. It seems a bit random.

It's also less work to just walk through the rows while holding down the axe button to cut everything. Rather than walk around the saplings.

I got this on the Steam sale. I wanted to see what all the hype was about. I get it now. I never want to stop. I want to move to Stardew Valley and grow giant crops and throw them in a box and get showered in gold coins.

I'm wooing Leah at the moment, but Abigail is tempting.. But poor Penny, stuck there with an alcoholic mother.. I could save her.

You make sure you whore your self out now y'hear?

Mainly because some of the potential spouses have really :3: heart-events and this is a redneck town so none of them will know you're dating all of them until you get married and the neighbors start gossiping.

Buy 'em from Pierre. He'll sell them starting on the first day of fall. You can get ready by placing your sprinklers and pathways and whatever on the last day of summer, then hoe the ground during the morning before Pierre's shop opens. They cost 240g each so make sure you have enough bucks saved up.

Used the Stardew Save editor to re-arrange my farm. For some reason, even before I moved things, 2 maple trees were deleted and 1 was moved up by the cat bowl. A small price to pay for OCD, though.

If it isn't year two then there's still plenty to do. Prep the farm with sprinklers, prep an orchard, finish all fishing tasks, finishing all mining tasks, fence out the animal enclosure, tap all available trees outside your farm.

Year2 is when you regret building a winery and there's no point to farming anything but berries anymore.

Good time to get animals set up so they are all grown in the Spring. Also great time to upgrade all your tools as much as possible since you aren't using them as much.

I am on the Internet.
Just pointing out that one of Leah's favourite gifts is driftwood, which is literally trash you fish up. Found this out too late to check, but if you can fish up driftwood in the ponds in the farm, you can have enough of them to get her to ten hearts maybe a day or so after you get your first fishing rod.

trash is the only thing that comes out of your farm ponds, which ironically is more useful than fish if you have access to recyclers. i didn't know driftwood is one of Leah's favorites, though, is that a Loved or a Liked gift? either way it makes a twisted amount of sense, she is probably using it in her sculptures and it sounds like a hilarious way to kill a late summer afternoon.
