naked women are literally the most popular subject for artists of all stripes to draw since before the dawn of time so It'd be nice it were a bit less indulgent but there's stuff way higher on the "it'd be nice of Miura didn't do this" list

Oh well, when the aliens come through in a million years and find our "historical records", they're going to think all Japanese males had some quasi-chastity-Prince-Albert piercing thing going on. I guess I have to go look up rapehorse to see what we got; it was certainly more 'normal' than Wyald's fuzzy thing. Still, when Griffith was at the well, he was a Ken doll. Maybe at the Eclipse he was using his new, unrealized powers to warp space instead of an actual appendage. For more serious content, I'm still pondering the likelihood of another Eclipse episode. Not sure I see it, because the shocker has already been seen, so what would be the point of doing it again. Some large battle seems more likely, with swordplay and magic versus Godhand-style-warping stuff going on. The wildcard seems to be Puck using Behi to turn into The Stay Puffed Apostle.

I'd watch Berserk if it was someone slowly flipping through the manga, zooming in on panels, while enthusiastically imitating sound effects and making silly voices

Wasn't there some kind of animated Watchmen comic? It was basically just the camera zooming over largely unmoving panels, with some basic Flash animations for punches, flying words, sound effects and so on, with speech bubbles popping up. So, animation that basically requires a high resolution image, Photoshop and moderate amount of talent. If any Photoshop wizards read this, let's totally do this, I'll provide overenthusiastic sound effects. Berserk foley, hell yeah That, and the voices for Puck, Mozgus and Rape Horse

Fred Phelps as Mozgus, Animal (Frank Oz) for RapeHorse, R Lee Ermey for Puck...

Its massively underrated because it came out as the same time as the movie so the movie stole all its thunder. But the motion comic is way better. There are a few videos on youtube which are just people panning around berserk or other manga, I've watched a few but most are poo poo. I would kill for a motion comic of berserk on the level of quality with the watchmen one.

Awesome, I didn't know the Watchmen video-comic was on Youtube. Thought the actual movie was alright, but you just can't match it in comic form. Guess I'll know what I'll be watching for a while now. ...when Berserk's not running, I guess. Man, I hope they nail the look and feel of the Dragonslayer. I want it to sound heavy as poo poo.

A mechanical engineer's take on the the Dragonslayer, using assumed dimensions from the manga, puts it at 388 pounds. He elaborated on his thought processes in the reddit thread he first posted in https://www.reddit.com/r/Berserk/comments/2ch5rd/an_engineers_take_on_the_guts_dragonslayer/ It's not going to be truly accurate but that thing is an absolute monster even with a margin of error and I too want it to sound a wrecking ball whenever it hits the ground.

I would imagine it's probably some crazy poo poo like swinging a bunker-buster bomb every single time.

Here's a link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6lR35MhVMss&list=PL_AYqxzHii9hPFHWM2gC5pTknX2abkiAG The only weak part of it is, kinda like an audiobook they have one narrator do the whole cast, which means an old man pretending to do lady voices. Its great seeing the actual art moving around though. Jose posted:was it ever suggested that the brand made him slightly superhuman? i can't remember when he gets the dragonslayer. guess its time to reread berserk Its suggested that his sheer rage makes him superhuman, everybody realizes he's like a literal monster when he's in berserker mode, even before he gets the armor. He has the beast. The beast makes him superhuman. He gets the dragonslayer from Godo, its just sitting in Godo's lab because it was deemed unwieldable, Godo makes Guts a new sword, a demon shows up and the new sword breaks right away since it wasn't meant for demons. Guts wastes no time, grabs the dragonslayer, and rips the demon a new rear end in a top hat, proving that he can actually wield the drat thing, and that its actually pretty good at demonslaying.

even taking into account that Guts looks like he ate Brock Lesnar for breakfast it is still kind of insane that he can just casually swing around a 400-pound slab of iron.

# ? Jun 29, 2016 20:49 |

This is, obviously, when he's in poorer health and had lost weight but he's not actually massively built. He's definitely well defined and all that but he doesn't really have a strongman's build. He's a lot more lean than someone built to throw around several hundreds of pounds.* All time great strongman, poor MMA fighter Mariusz Pudzianowski, . *- Real world rules obviously don't apply, I know I know

I don't have the page on hand but there's a panel where Schierke theorizes that Guts has the strength that he does due to the increased effectiveness of willpower while in the Interstice. So yeah, in a roundabout way it's the Brand that makes him so stupidly strong.

400 pounds is utterly absurd, that's like 100 times the weight of an actual greatsword. Even 40 pounds would be way heavier than any sword could practically be and suitably impressive to swing around the way Guts does.

I know Berserk is a dark fantasy with most combat being rooted in reality, but as for the sword, can't we all just agree that Guts using a giant 400 pound slab of iron gently caress-off sword just looks awesome and gives us opportunities for amazing visuals? It wouldn't be the same if he was using a slightly oversized greatsword, and it would make battling giant demon spawn far less interesting. Berserk is not without faults, but who cares about discussing logistics of using the sword, the dragonslayer rules.

It's cool but I wouldn't expect much in the way of an in-story justification for how Guts swings a sword that should technically weigh more than him.

The sword was clearly built using very light internal alloys, coupled with a nice carbon nanotube exterior. It's made even lighter by all the souls it houses. We know it's heavy enough that Isidro can't lift it, and that it doesn't fracture when going through bone and stone. The physics for calculating the energy during a swing is ridiculously easy, but I have to get off this bus so someone else can do that.

We know it's heavy enough that Isidro can't lift it, and that it doesn't fracture when going through bone and stone. We don't know how fast he can swing it so we can only ballpark it at best. But considering 400lbs of dragonslayer, if he swings it at say, 300ft/s which is probably conservative for "faster than the eye can see", that's roughly 90m/s 400lbs is roughly 181 kilograms, so 90m/s * 181kg = 16,290 KG M/S or newton-seconds momentum. Doing some quick googling to compare, if we look at canons, a big fuckoff cannon might shoot a 32lbs canonball at 1200-1700ft/s, that's ~15kg at 518m/s, or 7,770 KG M/S So that would mean that Guts' swings the dragonslayer at roughtly 210% the force of a 32-pounder huge canon. Canons apparently go up to like 68-pounders, so assuming those have a greater load of powder and maintain roughly equal velocity, that would mean that Guts' sword hits with the same force as the largest cannons used during the age of sail. Huge fuckoff ship canons, bigger ones than most ships have. Guts is pretty much a siege weapon. This is all rough napkin math since we don't know how fast he actually swings it (or how heavy it really is). Whether any substance known to man could stand up to being swung at that much force is an exercise I leave up to the reader Have extra credit papers on my desk by Monday.
