I liked all the base building stuff and open world stuff in V, but I prefer the classics for the essence of soloing a single big mission + fighting memorable bosses. V has Sahalanthropus which is cool, but the Skull fights are below par for MGS bosses. Still better then the vehicle fights in PW though.

I remember one of the many theories before V came out was that you would spend the first half building up your army which would lead to Outer Heaven and the second half would be Solid Snake in 1995 infiltrating it and killing everybody.

10: Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance

It's not just the incredibly silly title that turns us off to this game. And we don't hate the change of pace -- Raiden's lightning quick sword skills make for a very fun distraction. But that's the keyword: distraction. Revengeance is a cartoony hack-and-slash game that strays away from what made the series great in the first place: the nuance in storytelling and gameplay. Where is the bigger message? It seems more like fanfare to us. Raiden was so badass in MGS4 that he left fans wishing he was a playable character (jokes on you, Raiden haters). But Kojima originally cancelled this game, and perhaps it should've stayed that way. Platinum Games did little with the opportunity they were given to comment on the aftermath of Metal Gear Solid 4 (Revengeance takes place 4 years after Solid Snake's final mission). Here was a golden egg: a chance to usher in a new era in the Metal Gear narrative with one of the most badass cyborgs in the game's universe. Instead, you get a heavy metal action game that couldn't stray farther from the spirit of the Metal Gear series. If all that cyborg phooey is the future of Metal Gear, we're going back into cryo-stasis a la Big Boss. In their defense, Platinum was probably given a set of rules and weren't able to tamper too directly with the Metal Gear story. Why make the game then? The cutting mechanic is pretty cool, though.

If Kojima had more time he should have set a part of the game in the Hawizeh Marshes.

if Kojima had been given all the resources he needed MGSV would have been the greatest game ever made by a significant margin

It wasn't too bad in the original sons of liberty release, but it got worse in Substance then even worse in the HD collection. Is there a way to install a game to the hard drive from the disc on PS3?

I didn't realize how many jokes I didn't pick up on as a young person. The way Raiden brags about doing 300 missions in VR but then none of them were "daylight" and he has to call for help because of one guard watching the node 😂😂

There is some very sensual touching going on in the cutscene there. i don't actually think it means anything sexual but it's cool how it contrasts with modern ideas of what bad ass stuff should be like. It even seems authentic to some kind of chivalric masculine touching from a tyme longe gone

It's footage from MGS: VR Missions, which is how Raiden was trained.

"Sneaking 60, Weapons 80", etc.

He also claims he did a VR mission of the Tanker, with which Snake replies "Yeah, well, I doubt it accurately simulated the events of that mission."

Which raises the question: Were we really playing as Snake in the Tanker chapter?

I love this series so much.

Haha cool. I thought the same thing during MGSV at the "all your missions on record" line, like 3 and Peace Walker were also your experience of being brainwashed into becoming Big Boss

A jaw dropping moment for me was near the end of 2. I took the twist ending as you were playing a prototype S3 simulation, so when Colonel says "It's not in the simulation" he's talking about the game you're currently playing. Of course I know there are other interruptions and I'm not saying mine is a 100% correct. Either way I was floored that a game attempted modern theory and philosophy and still had good gameplay.
