Every time I hear a stamps.com ad I just imagine the Night Vale version in its place. I miss those weird fake-ad segments.

Late to the game but holy poo poo Limetown is executed very, very well. I usually can't deal with supernatural/scifi/thriller/horror/conspiracy fiction because I'm always distracted by trying to edit the script in my mind but these guys hit pretty much every note on key and are moving plot along at an astonishingly quick speed. The only distractingly unrealistic thing is the private sector making any worthwhile neuroscientific finding before DARPA does :iamafag:

Latest Ars Paradoxica got me thinking of dropping it. It's a good series but everything is just so against the protagonists that it just seems bleaker and bleaker.

Not going with that one. Going to try the Truth next. Turtlicious fucked around with this message at 01:06 on Jul 6, 2016 |

The Truth is good but all over the place with episode themes. Some are really good others are kind of bland. The first one is a what if story where the lunar lander crashed stranding the astronauts on the moon

The Bright Tapes are amazing. The Truth was kind of lame, but I like a more overarching plot, so ymmv. Going to also try Wolf 359

The opening parts of Wolf 359 remind me of Red Dwarf. Just a few people stuck on a ship with a terrible AI and the hijinks that happen Edit: and done with Wolf 359 until September. I've listened to Tanis, Black Tapes, Bright Sessions and Archive 81. Any other good ones to binge through? They don't even need to be podcasts I'm okay with radio shows. I think those are still popular in England? Len fucked around with this message at 13:46 on Jul 6, 2016 |

Just a few people stuck on a ship with a terrible AI and the hijinks that happen I think only one person mentioned it in the thread, but I liked The Behemoth, and it helps that episodes are really short. I'm realizing with the new show that is out from that producer, Scotch, is pretty slow if you listen to it in real time. I think I like The Behemoth more because I just zipped through all the episodes. His overall stories are intriguing, but not much happens in each individual episode. Also, were Limetown and Alice Isn't Dead purposeful omissions from your list? You should listen to those.

The Truth is definitely hit or miss. Check out episodes That's Democracy!, The Talk, or Can You Help Me Find My Mom? All are excellent. A lot are based around sound design, so headphones are recommended.

I liked Nightvale more when it was just a town full of weird poo poo with a gay host. Then the relationship between Cecil and Carlos took center stage and the weird stuff was the underplayed background and I jumped off. At least that was how it felt for me.

The series changed over time because Finknor wanted it to. You don't have to like it, but it's silly to call it "pandering" just because it's not catering to your tastes anymore.

It just felt like the change kicked in around the time it blew up big on tumblr. I can blame tumblr for whatever I feel like though even if it was always the original intent to switch things to a romcom laid over the Twilight Zone.

My girlfriends sister is one of those fan girls so that might have something to do with it? Men in suits have invaded the town of Basin. A man calling himself Scoop Hound reports on the situation from a bunker 40 feet underground. It's not bad.

I listened to episode one on the way home. Is the narrator Dana? And yeah rereading what I posted I sound like a gigantic prick. The issue I had with Nightvale isn't the gay relationship it's just that there's a relationship at all. It would be like if Black Tapes suddenly became about an Alex/Strand romance and the tapes were secondary it would turn me off the series and I would check out.

The narrator is Jasika Nicole, but she's not playing Dana Cardinal. I get where you're coming from regarding the show becoming about Cecil. I want to know more about the Sherrif's cloud office and bloodstone circles and less about his hand-niece's school life. Echophonic fucked around with this message at 00:51 on Jul 7, 2016 |

Echophonic posted:The narrator is Jasika Nicole, but she's not playing Dana Cardinal. I didn't realize it, but this is one of my complaints with WtNV. That and that Fink got into a pretty formulaic pattern with the crisis-to-resolution timing. I liked the weird one-offs that were different from one another, like the doubles episode, the story of You, and the Russian Sub.
