ayy lmao, it's a texan company that used to make good keyboards. unlabelled wasnt an option until like 3rd gen, and never was the only option for any given model either

My recollection is that unlabelled was the only option on the first gen, and the second gen, which sold a ton of units, came in both varieties. Anyway we owe das a debt of gratitude for popularizing mech keyboards in general and cherry keys specifically

I still use my das mark 2 with blues erryday and it continues to own

The original Das Keyboard was a KeyTronic Ergoforce painted black, it's a gross rubber membrane keyboard where the rubber is stiffer for certain keys

well more or less

if you touch type or if you have to use multiple layouts, key legends are mostly decorative anyway

plus it cuts down on the whole coworkers borrowing your poo poo thing if they can't use it

i still like a decce vintage terminal looking double shot set though

not bad. I'm sure I could get used to it in a week or so if I actually used the numpad. my hhkb's function layer took about a week to take to muscle memory.

function layers that are printed on the sides are the only way to have them

older generation noppo choc mini 84, non-backlit cherry mx black version. if your friend is on a mac, look for something else, since this has fancy nkro over usb stuff that has problems with macs

one complaint i have is that functional buttons are rub off over time. i have this keyboard since january 2015 and plenty of fn labels have partially or completely rubbed off. other than that's i like it a lot, mx black is nice switch for me, and it's built like a brick. i'd instantly buy another one if they rework it with better fn labels, and detachable cable (thought i havent had any problems with the cable insofar)

nkro over usb there works, essentially, via a separate chip on the board that emulates multiple, 3 iirc, keyboards at once to bypass standard 6+m4 key limitation over usb

and how is that any fun to build mmmm smart guy? plus i kinda want to get it up and running for usb, then maybe try to convert it up to wireless. theres a ton of empty space in the case, i could cram a giant f-off battery in there, maybe include a switch for multiple pcs
