I just watched the tattoo anime, and I appreciate that it wastes no time at all setting up its perfectly generic action anime plot. Just "Here's your dude, he's in school and good at kung fu. Now he has powers. Here's his friend with big boobs, and this is a cool girl with guns and knives. Now fight another dude. Bam. Our guy is special somehow."

Today's robot is Shin Getter Robo (specifically the manga version) Shin Getter Robo is my favorite robot of all time. Composed of 3 jets that can combine into 3 different robot forms depending on their order. Shin Getter-1 uses axes and lasers, Shin Getter-2 uses drills and is very fast, Shin Getter-3 uses missiles and raw physical strength. So far nothing different from any of the other Getter Robos. The reason I like it so much though is 2 other properties it only has in the manga (I also prefer the manga version for nitpicky visual reasons but I won't bore you with that). Firstly, it is sentient, essentially being an avatar of the getter rays around which the story revolves. Secondly, it can absorb nearly any kind of matter and energy, and uses that to grow and evolve. It eats humans, other mecha, a nuke, planets until it eventually becomes the massive galaxy-spanning Getter Emperor  And I love it for that.
