I don't know of anywhere nearby that's specifically good for spam & eggs but the Silver Dolphin Bistro in the basement of the horseshoe barracks on the sub side is the best galley I've ever been to and they do great eggs to order. It's across the street from the submarine chapel.

Also the bowling alley between Smallwood Hall and the horseshoe barracks has the best spam fried rice omelettes ever, if that's what you're looking for.

The fried rice omelet "fro" in the MWR on the sub base is really good too.

Thanks for this. Not only was this the best galley I've ever eaten at, I was pleasantly surprised to find out it's free for the CSG.

It really is a gem, galley-wise. They do a killer slider lunch on the weekends too.

When I was there the place for fried rice omelettes was the bowling alley on the sub base, but I don't know if LingcodKilla is talking about the MWR on the corner across from the Parche memorial and NSTCPac or the bowling alley behind Smallwood Hall; it may have gotten shuffled around.

There was also a tent set up along the road to shipyard near the surface-side chapel that did amazing chopped steaks but last I heard they were having problems negotiating their lease. Let me know how long you'll be around and I'll tell you what comes to mind, bearing in mind that I haven't been there in over 10 years.

The steak plate place that used to be by the ncis polygraph building is now in a semi permenant shack by the fleet store.

Was never there when it was In a tent by the chapel though

It's still the best.

The roach coach outside shipyard is also OK for breakfast burritos if you happen to be in the area but I don't remember if they were actually notably good or if shipyard was such a pit of misery that anything that was both hot and food was a welcome way to start a duty day. Shipyard also has a geedunk with vending machines; one night I got off topside watch in drydock and spent $0.75 for a cup of coffee that was literally full of ground ants.

In short, I would not recommend shipyard or drydock or ant coffee.

The store by the surface gym or the one by the Admiral's Row/Hale Ali'i neighborhood? Good to know they (or someone else) is still making that stuff, they had some ace steak with Tabasco/soy sauce.

Fleet store is right in front of the destroyers. They got rid of the tiny store near hale ali'i in that basement when they opened the big one.

Across from that main chapel

And all the black mold you could ever want :v:

Nah, it was pretty sweet. Quick walk to the pier, the mini-NEX, bowling alley, gym, and movie theater. Plus the A/C was some kind of monster, never failed, always ice cold.

Seriously though, I did lose a bunch of clothes to black mold, plus a leather motorcycle jacket that was under a dessicant tub I left in the closet over westpac to deal with the moisture and ended up overfilling and dumping a bunch of saltwater into the closet.

Hey while you're there, grab as many cartons of Diamond saloon pilot crackers as you can. A saltine cracker the size of a CD isn't exactly comfort food or anything, but they're really good for all kinds of snacking and they're like hen's teeth out here in the non-PNW US.

Is there a sailor in your life that you hate? Someone you desperately want to suffer, but do not have the legal grounds to hurt them or dock their pay? Instead, try sending them to the Basic Security Manager's Course!

...seriously, this is the single worst Navy training course I or any of my colleagues in the class have ever taken. It's three 7 hour days where two retired staff NCOs read ppts to you word for word, no, really, they stare at the screen and read and throw in a "it would BE-HOOOOVE you to..." every so often. It's a place where they'll open with "You guys already know this, so I'm not going to read it," and then charge right on ahead reading paragraphs straight off a page. I honestly and without a hint of irony recommend this as a punishment.

This drives me up a loving wall. Worst is when they tell you at length how they aren't going to read the slide to you, and then try to summarize it and end up reading most of it anyway, which takes more time than just reading it in the first place. Repeat for slide after slide after slide...

I would say the worst course I ever attended was detachment maintenance officer (DETMO) class. Most of it was just reading passages from the NAMP; one day they told us "yeah, the guy who was supposed to teach today's section isn't here" and let us go at 10 am. I mean, it gave me a great chance to go kayaking in San Diego bay, but it was a complete waste of TAD money that could have better gone to sending one of our PRs to sewing machine repair school.

Dear diary, I got another erection today at work. SO embarrassing, but kinda hot. The CO asked me to fix up his dress uniform. I had stayed late at work to move his badges 1/8" to the left and pointed it out this morning. 1SG spanked me while the CO watched, once they caught it. Tomorrow I get to start all over again...
