The thing is, Subaru's obsession with Emilia has always been a little unhinged and bizarre if you think about it. She was never as nice to him as he acts and significantly less so than Rem.

Why did Ram and Rem even kill him in the second timeline? Cause he was walkin' all weird in the hallway at night?

We know so little about this Jealous Witch stuff aside from the fact that everyone knows who she is and is frightened of her. What with the reactions everyone has whenever Subaru brings it up, I can't help but wonder if she caused some recent horrific disaster on a national scale and Subaru's just being offensively flippant about it since he has no idea.

She did cause a national scale disaster, she took half of the world and the scars of what she did still remains up to this day as a constant reminder like mabeasts

All I'd remembered anyone saying was that she was an evil witch who did something bad, and not what she did, or when, how or why. I mean, the implications are all pretty obvious, but I don't remember any specifics being mentioned. Either way, Subaru really needs to get off his rear end and learn more about this world, so he can avoid offending people by dismissing all this stuff, or doing things like implying the knights were all chosen only due to family influence.

Rewatch the episode where Subaru talks to Beatrice after he finishes reading the storybooks about the world, she talks about the witch

Well, She was actually pretty nice to him in 1A, and had some sort of relationship start to develop. It's just that Subaru is a broken human being at this point. And the most recent stuff really shows it. I just wonder whether or not he's gonna realize how busted he brain is in this arc. Cannibalizing your 6 rear end in a top hat colleagues and then going on a drakengard kinda murder spree totally justifies how they feel about it in my pov.

It's a show of force. They have so many swords, so many resources, they can easily afford to leave valuables behind as though they were nothing. They're real loving terrifying.

My theory is that emilia is what is left of satelia after capturing his soul by a group of wizards and figthers. Satelia moved the hero to this plane because after getting wounded in the battle and almost killed, she needed somebody to love her. So Subaru is in this universe to love Satelia. Beyond that, I don't know. Maybe the only way to break Satelia free is true love, and the people that sealed Satelia trough nobody would love her (since everyone kinda hate her). I hope to be wrong, because otherwise looking back, the serie would have been too predictable.

The big problem with theories like this is that people can detect "the scent of the Witch" on Subaru but not Emilia. I do agree that Satella most likely summoned Subaru and gave him Return by Death in order to get him to unseal her, though.
