Well, since Guile's haircut is an option I am obligated to create the X-Com Third Strike team for my next play through. Suggestions for classes? Zangief is obviously a grenadier. Guile on ranger. Chun-Li on ranger. Cammy on sharpshooter. C. Viper on specialist.

The one patch changed it so the Avatar Project Countdown doesn't reset right? Will it reset to some minimum time ever or is it just 23 or whatever days it was, it hits zero you lose? I left it at 21, about to hit the countdown again, but wasn't sure what the changes actually are. I know it'll pick back up at 21, but if it hits, say 3 days, and I stop the clock, will it pick back up next time at 7 days or anything?

So I'm doing a retaliation mission, and no civilians are getting shot. How weird! I see a few bugs, but that's it. So I saunter along and take my time and find what I assume is the last trooper. I move up to kill it and whoops the berserker queen! I guess I found out why no civilians were being killed; it was killing Advent first. e: lol I get it down to its last set of health on my first turn. On its first action it just leaves. Long War's mods are all good, though you can play without the soldier class overhaul if that's not your style. The new laser pack mod actually makes the mid-late game harder because it takes longer to reach Plasma. There's a mod that make enemy pack sizes 33% larger on average if you're feeling plucky. I played totally vanilla! I'll check out the Long War stuff though I did like the balance. Are there any convenience or cosmetic mods you swear by yourself?

The first time I fought the BQ it ran up on my SPARK and did a bunch of attacks that did at most 1 damage through his armor while getting shot a lot, then ran away with less than 1/3 health left. Bladestorm is stupid-effective against them. Also squad size 5, 6, 6 which is probably the most important bit. I will admit my mid-tier Psi using Stasis and letting me re position the first time I saw the Archon King is the main reason I chumped him though. Psi is ridiculous.

Actually sorry I'm playing Commander too (I got the two mixed up). He did the same ground pound on me but he did it to just my SPARK, it did one damage. Whenever I shot him after that he'd punch the SPARK for 1-2 damage or take a move, but none of my non-SPARK soldiers were close enough to melee so the move would result in him getting shot again and then running back to the SPARK to punch it. I just ran in to him the second time and he did the same thing - ground pounded my SPARK to stun it, then sat there fruitlessly hitting it. I am playing with Long War perks so the game is significantly easier than a vanilla Commander game even beyond that - I can send my SPARK way ahead of everyone and Aid Protocol it to give it free overwatches, then Overdrive once it reveals something to take three more shots, etc. and then use overpowered perks to kill the thing. deep dish peat moss fucked around with this message at 00:15 on Jul 12, 2016 |

Well that was hard as hell, but I only did it cause I wanted to see if I could. That's on Legendary with Ballistics and Kevlar and it took about 3-4 turns to take out Julian. Didn't take too long to chew through his health. Lily was an absolute wrecking ball since she was the only one aside from my Grenadier that could get through armour. The Spark helped get rid of some armour and then promptly hid away so Julian couldn't kill it, cause it was pretty fuckin fragile. Next time, I'm waiting for Mag, or Predator before I do that mission, makes it less of a headache. RIP my Ranger that just couldn't dodge two Julian shots behind full cover.

Captain Diarrhoea posted:I played totally vanilla! I'll check out the Long War stuff though I did like the balance. Are there any convenience or cosmetic mods you swear by yourself? Convenience: Evac All is amazing. saves you like 15 seconds of tedium during every evac mission. Stop Wasting My Time does what it says on the tin, you can see the exact changes but it's stuff like removing the weird pauses, speeding up gremlins, et al. Retroactive AWC -- you might not have noticed, but soldiers don't get bonus perks from the AWC if they would have gotten it at a promotion before you build the AWC. This makes the game marginally easier since you don't have to prioritize the AWC as much. Cosmetic: CapnBub's Accessory Pack is probably the gold standard. Doubles the amount of head props in pretty much every category, and they're all really high quality. Spart's Kitbashes adds cool cosmetic options for guns (i.e. an LMG for heavies instead of a minigun). You have to manually change it, it's not a random selection, but they're all nice. ADVENT Armor adds the advent armor in proper modular pieces. Might not sound too interesting if you don't want your dudes to be doing ADVENT cosplay, but having more (really good) options for torso, legs, and arms is actually nice just for playing dress-up with your dudes. Gameplay: EU Aim Rolls makes the critical hit system more intuitive. XCOM 2 uses one roll for both hits and critical hits, the end result being that if you have 40% chance to hit and 40% chance to crit, you will guaranteed crit. Using the EU system, there's a roll for each, so if you hit, it will then decide whether you crit independently. Count Uvula fucked around with this message at 00:32 on Jul 12, 2016 |

Evac All is the kind of mod that gets you scratching your head thinking, "How the hell was this function not in the base game?" First time I did an evac mission, having some option to rope everyone out together was the first thing that came to mind.

BAH GAWD ITS SECTOPODS MUSIC NO e: Also, I learned that the Shadow Chamber can't detect rulers. e: Actually, what made him dangerous was unlike the others, he didn't move forward towards my units and held in place, so he couldn't be immediately frozen. It's really fun and really tense, too bad the others weren't the same. The kicker is that's the first time I've seen unconscious but since it was the specialist he knocked out, who cares about recovery protocol still. e: Literally the moment I scan the guerilla ops pop up. Honestly the biggest issues I have with the Archon King's version of Pinions is the BS Stun/Disoreient/KO chance. I'd really wish he stopped launching salvos of stun-lancers at me. The damage that's unavoidable for the majority of your team? Fine. The fact that it can roll some of the most bullshit statuses (including "your dude is now effectively temporarily KIA until the mission is over") on all of the people it hits is pretty rear end. That's the only thing I really don't like about him.

Well that was much harder than the Tower mission, mainly because the arena for the Viper King is pretty drat terrible to fight in. I managed to deal about six damage before he scuttled off, but not before killing two of my dudes. I'm looking forward to facing him again when I'm not overwhelmed by lovely snakes that keep dodging 90% shots WHAT THE gently caress. Maybe for this mission I should wait for both Mag and Pred before taking it, because this did not go too well for me. And also not get Bradford frozen for two turns.
