The episode where Janeway was on her space-rag is a sci-fi classic and only Reddit Fedorists would agree.

However the episode where B'elanna is on her DISHONORABLE klingon Blood-fever period and is super horny (literally) is unwatchable.

What about the episode where Seven gets her nanoprobes extracted w/o her consent and at first you think it's a rape allegory but then like 5 minutes before the end the guy ends up being falsely implicated and kills himself while panicking and trying to escape anyway (?!) so the whole thing ends up implying that women who report their rapes are hallucenating bitches that ruin men's lives or something

Basically there are maybe a dozen or so honestly good Voyager episodes and the rest of the time when it isn't being boring and pointless it's falling flat on it's loving face like that, and only a goddamn fool could have watched the whole show and not picked up on it

gently caress's sake I've known since I was a child Ds9 was the quality show and Voyager was the one you watched because it was the only thing on Wednesday night

I don't think many people disliked voyager because of FEMALE CAPTAIN, but tons of people hated ds9 because black captain, they just couch in terms like "the show was too dark" and saying sisko was "too angry" or "too violent" and "didn't play by the rules". Also weird r/atheism types hate that the show was so "religious". Motherfucker the show was centrally related to Bajor, a super religious society, and learning that their gods are actually real and incredibly important for the future of the quadrant.

"Wahh I don't like that sisko was all religious humans had evolved beyond that!" Are people this loving dumb? The prophets were real actual aliens who spoke directly to Sisko all the time and he was pretty uneasy with the religious aspects and only ended up believing more and more of bajoran prophesy and such when he had more and more evidence it was all written by aliens who can see beyond linear time.

Bah, why would a modern educated federation citizen believe in future predictions written by aliens who exist outside of time and want to warn/guide people??? What religious nonsense! Stupid angry black man who was so uppity he wouldn't even go into a revisionist history holodeck fantasy that white-washed history??? Why does he still care, racism is OVER!

The idea for that nanoprobe episode must have been 'Let:s take that TNG episode where Data activates his dreaming subroutine and make it entirely terrible for the main character'.

Like, seriously. A gently caress up of that magnitude would have irreparably damaged Seven's confidence in herself as an objective, rational person and the Doctor's ability to provide care for her. The implications of it would have been massive.

Instead it's Janeway saying some 'we all have a bad day' poo poo over a cup of Neelix's Brew.

The bajorans were more often than not unsympathetic and irritating as gently caress and so only strengthened my lack of belief in any religious stuff

Dukat did nothing wrong :colbert:

But yeah whenever I hear people making GBS threads on DS9 it's always for whatever the show actually wasn't, and more for whatever nonsense that individual decided to project onto it. I had one guy tell me it was boring because "there were never any space battles on it" once.

The ads for the episode were extremely dishonest, they really went out of their way to say the episode was about seven being raped. I remember them well and thinking it was going to be a pretty heavy episode. She's all laying on a bed and shouting about how she was violated and the voice over made it very clear the episode was about sexy big-boobed seven gettin' raped so get ready for a rape episode. I think they even had some "but which man violated seven?!" and it flashes through all the male cast. Then it turns out it's not about rape at all, it's about stealing technology, and that "victim's" memories are pretty bad and ruin lives!

Here's things white male nerds complained about the sisko:
-The benny episode. Don't ram 1950's race issues down our throats! It's not relevant today let alone in 300 years! I don't watch scify for heavy handed white guilt poo poo!
-The casino holodeck episode. It's unrealistic that Sisko was avoiding hanging out with Vic all that time because it bothered him that the setting was a time when segregation was still a thing and black people would not be allowed in those establishments as guests. Why does he care about some ancient racism? It's just the actor and the show trying to ram white guilt down our throats!!
-Isn't it weird how his love interests are mostly black? Clearly sisko is some sort of black supremacist that's still obsessed with 1950's race issues, looks like he's the real racist.
-Sisko sometimes wears sort of african themed stuff and has some african themed decor, this reminds me of scary black nationalists in the US.

This is all more than enough for racist people to dismiss the show or come up with other excuses why they don't like it. Also in a lot of white male nerd's fantasies about the future of racial harmony it means erasing all but white culture. It should be that the rest of the world simply assimilates and adapts to white culture, that's the post-racial utopia. You can look however you want and maybe cook your people's traditional food or what ever, just "act white". And to be fair, this is what was mostly depicted in startrek. Humans were standardized beige americans in all but skin tone, different cultures were aliens because in trek humans were a stand-in for america and other species were stand-ins for other countries/cultures.

In ds9 though the only actual american character was sisko, but he wasn't one of these beige standard "human culture" people the future is supposed to be full of. Miles is some sort of working class Irish and has emotions and prejudices and poo poo, the doctor is brown AND english and has a lot of character flaws?! And everyone else is some sort of alien with an actual culture. No one on the show was your standard next-gen era beige human, dax was the closest, and that's why she was the worst. The show's just too drat ethic, too spicy.

So many people forget that Sisko hosed mirror universe Jadzia.

And his personal hero was Chinese.

And he was alright with Jake dating space aliens.

And he had like one bit of Africana for every thousand bits of baseball and Bajoran 'culture'.

People are dumb. DS9 was very multi racial. Heck, Sisko's own dad can be seen in the background loving a jumbo shrimp in that first episode back on earth.

Sisko's dad seemed like a pretty normal civilian with deep cultural roots to the area and a strong moral code, but let's not forget that before sisko was born he was involved in a plot to stop the Federation-Klingon peace treaty by assassinating both leaders. He aged really well though.

I like how TNG and DS9 really sold you on the idea that Star Fleet was way out of their element in military maneuvering. When the Borg cube showed up at Wolf and just went ham on an armada of ships without issue it did such a good job of illustrating that the Federation's saving grace wasn't technology or might, but brave people with problem solving skills. So as the Dominion show up to fight, you see the Federation become more militant, because the survivors of that battle didn't want to see poo poo hit the fan like that ever again. It was a natural and sensible way for Starfleet to grow between series and it made sense. It wasn't just some "We're the space good guys here to win with a deus ex machina" but instead, it was a government trying to evolve to meet new threats

How could you not like Far Beyond the Stars it's probably the best example of science fiction or at least quality Star Trek that exists IMO.

It explores ethical considerations through the lens of science fiction which is what Star Trek is about at its best for me, a la Measure of a Man.
