Just got back from Manson/Pumpkins in Cincinnati and I was very pleasantly surprised.. Having seen both bands in their respective heydays, I was worried about being let down going into the concert. Both bands put on an excellent show, but I think I was more surprised by how good Manson was based upon my expectations going into it. Yeah, some of the newer songs might not be that great, but (just like a poster before me) I don't feel like the performance was forced or "phoned in." It was actually a pretty great concert.

His band does a solid effort that makes up for the man himself.

I just listened to Antichrist Superstar in its entirety for the first time in years and holy poo poo, its such a ferocious, unrelenting album. You can definitely feel Trents hand in it (its basically what a NIN played live sounds like). Its so raw, so angry. I think its the best production of 'wall of sound' type stuff ever,

Mechanical Animals is pretty great too.

What does everyone think of the over-arching reverse trilogy ( Holywood, Mech. Animals, ACSS) claim? I feel like I can see the chronological order of the three concept albums, but to claim it was a reverse trilogy is a stretch. theres no way that it was set out to be that way from before ACSS, but I guess you get to take a fair bit of liberty with this sort of thing, and just shoehorn it in later.

either way, Im really enjoying the old albums still.

Like, you know, Star Wars? :)

But seriously I never heard of the reverse thing, only the ACS>MA>HW thing.

Either way, ACS is still one of my top 10 90s records. I can't always listen to it because of the sheer, unadulterated rage you pointed out, but drat if it isn't perfect sometimes.

Holywood is a pretty incredible album. I dont get why people think it isnt as strong as ACSS/MA. it touches on a lot of different sounds and feels.

It's worse because it has more filler.

What, the intro and outro and the fall of Adam? They're the only filler songs I can think of.

Like a third of the album. There are some good songs on there and it could have been a really strong 10 or 11 track album with minimal filler.

There's not a single filler track on that album to me. It all fits in perfectly with the theme of the album.

They did small venues last year, I would have gone if the price wasn't so crazy.

Not only that, but apparently he(or production or security) are dicks to the venues too. I was working a show a few years back on the tour with Alice and our arena's head of security was miserable with all the warnings and requests from MM's team

I managed to see him live a few weeks back and I didn't realize how in bad shape he was. Just lumbering around the stage, at one point he forgot the words to Disposable Teens and Twiggy started feeding him the lyrics.

The last time I saw him was like 1996 or so, and eesh things have changed. Was nice to see Twiggy though!

That's a bummer, last I'd heard he'd been getting into decent shape and was poised to maybe return to some semblance of his former glory. Guess not! :rip:

I listened to Pale Emperor once, went "this is ok," and then every single thing about it immediately left my head and I've never felt compelled to go back and listen to it again. My main impression of it looking back was that it just wasn't all that interesting, and was verging on boring. Like, I remember more of Eat Me, Drink Me. At least it was bad as opposed to just inoffensive and kind of there like his last two (three?) albums since then.

So Animals and Antichrist.
I can live with that, although the pure aggressiveness of Antichrist is probably impossible to do again.
Animals have more in common with his later works.
Not that it matters, I'll buy the record regardless.
