my parents have two big dogs and theyre alright dogs are a little too neurotic about poo poo for my tastes tho like you can cause one of them to absolutely melt down by just standing in one place during a walk and it causes this feedback loop as his own panic results in further neurosis until hes reduced to a pile of cooling isotopes during the time it took you to take a picture of an interesting twig he's got issues since he got abandoned by prior owners so thats part of it. like i feel bad for the poor guy but its sort of draining to accidentally inflict sanity damage to things because you wanted to tie your shoes or leave the house without performing the correct coping rituals. little dog is alright. she belongs to my brother/sister in law and they've both kind of spoiled her (sister in law worse) so she has learned real bad habits like constant, unending whining and that separation anxiety is a cool thing that is to be encouraged and nurtured because it is "cute" when an animal reacts with distressed joy upon seeing you again after being convinced you had left forever. in my experience cats just puke/poo poo/piss on your work shirts and scratch up your furniture and i find that a bit less tiring to have to deal with. they are also very soft and cuddly.

dogs are like little precious and tragically stupid children that struggle with object permanence. cats are fluffy fur tubes which turn food into poo poo which you hope ends up in a box. that is my honest judgement.

work/herding/hunting breeds are good hounds probably best most other dogs aren't really dogs just bigger cats with codependency issues

My parents' dogs are incredibly neurotic but only around them; one of them has decided my mom needs to be guarded at all times and doesn't like to leave her side, and the other does that awful submissive pissing thing that's like the one dog behavior I really can't stand. But when I take them for walks they're totally fine.
