Just based on the one friend I had who was a vet, it's half awesome half utterly heart breaking and soul destroying depending on where you work and what kind of vet work you do, specifically. Apparently starting off it was the best thing ever because she got to save animal lives and pet all the kitties and puppies. But after a few years it largely became putting down a lot of mistreated animals, fixing pets that were broken because of abuse and having to go to the hospital to get yourself put back together because someone brought in a stray cat and it went nuts and tore your hand apart and now you have to make sure you don't have god knows how many diseases from its claws. Last time we met up she was talking about taking over for her boss who was retiring so I guess it's not as bad as it sounds

My mom's a hospice nurse. I could never do what she does, but she manages to be pretty happy. EDIT: Also, it's all right to not be that strong. There are still plenty of ways schmucks like you and me can help people and animals, even if it's just giving a shelter cat or dog a loving home.
