Are there not any land-based aircraft near there that we could attack the carrier with? Where are the Betties?

Have you actually spotted the enemy carriers? Without aircraft on naval search and spotting reports no aircraft will launch because you dont know where the enemy is. Also you can just disband your transports in to the port and they will not be targeted by naval strike attacks.

Where the hell is this guy flying out of? Having sensibly cancelled my own attacks, we're back to shooting down the RAF. The carrier has vanished off our scopes – with nothing spotting it, I'm going to have to use guesswork and dead reckoning. We get another batch of American newspapers and update our records.

Why aren't you sweeping his CAP with high-altitude Zeroes? Next time you want to bomb that base, sweep for a couple turns to wear down his CAP, then LRCAP the base that you're going to bomb to ensure that you have fighter support to protect your bombers for all of your bombing runs. Use your Zeroes for LRCAP and sweeps and your Oscars as escorts. Ensure those Oscars are set to within 2,000 ft elevation of your bombers for better coordination, and ensure that they are only set to 40% CAP or less so that you get a good number flying with those bombers. Make sure that the Oscars also have their range set appropriately so that they can fly to the hex that your bombers are targeting.

The carrier is pulling out. It engages our forces at Rabaul though. One kill, I was hoping for more. Our own force has just passed Marcus Island. This guy is going to be an Ace soon. We see the same old thing here. Our first wave of forces reach the area outside Sinyang – the enemy has 30,000 men but only 700 or so AV – this is going to be a massacre soon. We come out equal in the air. Ship losses are going to be high for a while. Grey Hunter fucked around with this message at 15:40 on Jul 29, 2016 |

Another day in Burma. The British try and shut down the Akyab airfield. It seems the guy who's been bugging us was named McKechnie. Our own ace Sakai delt with him today. The carrier is heading north – we lose another ship, and all I can hope is that these damaged planes will be decisive come the main engagement. We continue the battle outside Sinyang. We need to move quickly – the large stack from Siam is moving south as we speak. The carrier remains in the area – every day gets us closer to a proper engagement.

Clunk! Thankfully! Dammit, I need to find the ships to start sweeping this bit of sea. We see no air combat in the morning, this is the first peep we get. Day three of this offensive. The Chinese are crumbling fast, and with four to one odds, I'll try a shock attack tomorrow. The carrier is once more off the radar. Hopefully it is still hanging around somewhere. Grrr. Its evening before we get any action. Its just as well I ordered this shock attack to keep thing interesting. Not all have fled, but once they have, we shall march south. Adding about 1500 AV here should allow me to at least try an attack. They should be low on supplies by now. I now begin to worry the Allied carrier is fleeing my trap. Not to expensive. I find out why our subs have been quiet – all the little buggers have been skiving off in Truk! I set a load of patrols – we may see some more kills soon!

Arrgh! A ghost! We shatter the remaining troops here. A very quiet day, but we did a fair chunk of damage in China! Having been caught, our subs scurry to look busy. Why yes, I did spend half an hour ordering subs around. Its been a relatively dull month, but we've been able to keep on track, we're well above the Allies, and almost in proportion to the last game – taking into account the lack of large battles this time around. It really does seem that the Allies set the tempo. Now this is interesting, I've actually taken more bases than I lost to the AI. This means my empire is larger! I won guys! LP Over! The base points are very different this time. I've limited my air losses, and Burma has helped me increase the kills. We have a good number of Aces now as well! Our pools are stong in everything but combat planes – you will be happy to know I sorted my factory issue, it seems you need a certain level of supplies to build/repair factories, and I was not at that level – I gave all the bases 10K supplies and they suddenly began to repair themselves. Its cost me a fair chunk of Kate production though. Ground losses continue to be in my favour. I'm murdering them. This is where the war differs – We have seen a lot less naval action. I'm still ahead here, but the scale has been vastly different. The interesting thing is that if you sort by points, I don't have a single ship on there – and we still have the British CV! Our most expensive loss is the LSD, and we've lost one light cruiser from the Navy. This is a really good showing in my opinion.

Given you really want to be retiring the Kate ASAP, that's not necessarily a bad thing. I'd imagine dumping production of those to try and get Jills (and Judies, for that matter) online faster wouldn't exactly be the worst idea - or, if the game doesn't actually model the restrictions on what CVs could operate it, try and get Grace production online.

I think I acutally found the Allied carrier! Scratch one flattop! I repeat. Scratch one Flattop! The Americans had their planes in the air though. We gun a fair few down. They land one hit. A smaller wave doesn't even make it to our ships. The afternoon raid confirms no Wasp. It looks like they were supporting an invasion/garrison mission. We even hit a B-17! The British support a raid, but our pilots are experienced now and win the duels. No interesting ground fights, but that's okay. This makes up for it – I have to be careful though, there are no masses operational losses or destroyed on ground, so the fighters and bombers may have been able to rebase to land. Our own ship is slowed, but in no danger of sinking – this is a win for us!
