JJH was better with shorter episodes. I could see stretching things out if the guests are actually interesting characters (like the bat brothers, some of the weird dads, a decent expert witness), but most episodes could cut out at least 5-10 minutes and no one would notice.

Just started listening to something I've never seen mentioned here before, Competitive Erotic Fanfiction. It's not amazing all the time but when it's good, it's really good. My first episode had Kyle Kinane doing Smokey and the Bandit as well as DC Pierson doing Magic: The Gathering and they both killed it. If you're not familiar with the concept, it's a show where a bunch of comedians draw audience topics at the start, then they have 30 minutes to write something hilarious and steamy, then they read it and the audience votes on who wins.

I've heard Cecil Baldwin (of Night Vale and the New York Neo Futurists) doing something kinda similar: dramatic readings of terrible exotic fanatic.

And of course then there's My Dad Wrote a Porno, where the host reads his dad's lovely erotic novel to two of his friends.

I'm so glad this was brought to my attention. I just listened to Eliza Skinner describe KITT loving Michael Knight. The only issue is some of them are about poo poo we never got outside the US, so I have no frame of reference for a bunch of the jokes. Like, I have no loving clue what Perfect Strangers was, except what I could glean from Rob Delaney doing a fakey foreign accent and hitting some bad 80's sitcom beats. Actually, my other issue is I might not be able to listen to this one while driving, in case I wrap my car around a tree and whoever finds my corpse has to hear Aparna Nancherla describe Steve Irwin aka the croc hunter aka the sex cunter's attempts to gently caress an alligator.

I don't know what's better, Ben Norton thinking that's a genuine opinion that represents 'Democrats' as a whole, or Fogelnest escalating things and both of them fully acknowledging he'll never see half the hate she does for the tweet.

I love her so much. <3 I've seen her live 3 times in a year, with her special in between the first and second time, and there was almost 0 overlap in material. What overlap there was tended to be new jokes about the same thing that she'd already described happening previously.

The Ape of Naples posted:Jen Kirkman reminds me of a female Todd Glass. Just very anxious and unsure. Pretty much every performer is insecure and anxious, they're literally getting on stage to hopefully receive validation and/or accolades. Us normals/non-performers just think "gently caress stupid people that don't get me, I'm ignoring them", on the flip side many performers go to "everyone hates me, how do I change their mind!" I'm not saying that's what's actively going on with Jen Kirkman, I don't know her or her motivations, all I think is "Just ignore it, it means nothing and you reacting to it is only prolonging the negative reactions. Your fans understand your humor, you don't have to worry about everyone else." It's tough to see people like her go through all this drama because she cares what people think of her.

While I think that's certainly true, some performers are way more anxious and on edge than others. She's always struck me as being the anxious type. I'm not saying it may or may not be warranted in this situation. It's just something that I noticed awhile ago in her appearances on different podcasts. She reminded me of Todd Glass and comes off as unsure and anxious most of the time. It's not a judgement, just an observation and a way to view her perspective and comedy.
