Oliver Bjorkstrand is a young right winger who scores goals. He can learn something about gritty fortitude from his Danish guardian Jannik Hansen while teaching him something about scoring goals from all over the ice and together they will play the same position on different lines, like Lego (R) bricks, which are also from Denmark but not always made there anymore.

I like Bjorkstrand, this is a good pick. Now it's my turn.

The Winnipeg Jets select William Karlsson.

There is a huge lack of centers available, but Karlsson looks like he's going to be a very good shutdown guy - he's still only 23. I think he can put up 30 points playing with Beleskey on his wing and his defensive fancies are excellent. I think he makes strides this year.

Interesting. They know more about him than I likely do, but to me he seemed like a guy with really good offensive instincts who can't skate who is too raw for the NHL.

I've seen a couple comments on his skating but he's a big guy and can hopefully improve that. His reputation for playing a solid two way game with good passing ability/vision was what got me. It also seems like he'll play in the NHL next year unlike a couple probably better d prospects that haven't been taken. Also every defenseman I wanted was a right shot and needed a lefty. :v:

He looks like an NHL player at the worlds, and he has for the past two years.

He also took the AHL by storm when he came over last year, though he slowed down in the second half.

Because he should get married to Reese Witherspoon and the two need to insist on hyphenating their children's names and then putting them into hockey so we can have 'Witherspoon-Wotherspoon' across the back of an NHL jersey.

I looked at Bjorkstrand but beyond the awesome name I didn't really get the appeal. Wouldn't surprise me to see him as a benefactor of small sample sizes

That's what shied me away from drafting Marko Dano a little while back. Really impressive /60 numbers, but only 12 minutes of ice time per game in 34 games.

I'm gonna take 5'9 Jon Marchessault. He had decent stats in the regular season and played more when Stamkos went down. He's on a 2 year one way deal and should be able to stick as a full time NHLer this season.

e:

Laine - Hayes - Gallagher
Lowry - Bjugstad - Ennis
Marchessault

Chara - Hamilton
Ristolainen - Bowmeester

Hellebuyck

Coached by Mr Barry Trotz.

Well I was really hoping for Bjorkstrand and one of Matheson/Lindell but oh well, I'll go with Nick Schmaltz and Lars Eller

Schmaltz has a good chance to play with Toews this year because of the Blackhawks's purge, and Lars Eller is a solid play pushing middle sixer who will do well in Washington.

around 9m left for 9 players, bring on the ELC motherfuckers.

The third line is great but there are 3 guys in the top 6 who aren't top 6 players yet.

I love the top 2 centers and the goalie. The D is pretty meh. Still a playoff team for sure.

Brodeurs Nanny
Nov 2, 2006

Yeah Schmaltz/Ranto in the top six is sketchy. Connor would do great playing with Toews though. 20g for sure. If Rask bounces back and Provorov plays top four minutes it is definitely a playoff team.

Jordan7hm
Feb 17, 2011

Lipstick Apathy
Eh, Connor might be a strong top 6 player by January but I'm not sold on him.

That said Toews is probably going to have a worse winger in real life than Rantanen / Connor so I guess whatever.

Cooooome on talent deficit. I want to pick this guy who had dropped 3 rounds since last year for reasons I don't really understand.

Jordan7hm
Feb 17, 2011

Lipstick Apathy
I like your team a lot with a couple caveats. Buchnevich is a center and his success in the NHL will be as a center. He's a big guy who has a kind of Malkin-like style in terms of using his wingspan and size to help control play. In 2 years I'd see Buch as the #2, Kadri as the #3 and Karlsson as a guy who moves around the lineup. I'm high on Buchnevich though.

I don't like Elliott as a starting goalie to play 55+ games, you'll need a strong backup. Otherwise, it's a good team.

Brodeurs Nanny
Nov 2, 2006

I thought he was a winger. That's interesting. Yeah in that case I can move things around. And yes a good backup will be important for me.

I'm picking 6'7 Andrej Sustr.

He went in the 11th round last year and as far as I can tell this season was better. He is very much a defensive decenseman, but his pts/60 weren't terrible or anything. On Tampa plays mostly against the other team's top 6 and mostly starts in his own zone. On Carolina he'll be a third pairing guy and PK specialist, and I think the easier matchups should help. He's got a cheap contract for one more year and will still be an RFA at the end of the year.

My forwards are super gross but the I really like my defense, and think it is going to be real hard to play against, especially on a Trotz coached team.
