Anyone in here spent time shooting around Los Alamos? Going there in a couple weeks and am curious if there's any rocks+trees that everyone simply must point a camera at. From what I can tell, Ghost Ranch seems to be the main tourist destination. Most of my time will be back in the hills around Valles Caldera. I'll be there for the Perseids so a cool foreground for some meteors is in the hunt.

I haven't spent a lot of time up there but I thought the cliff dwellings at Bandelier were neat. Both pics have probably been taken a million times, and the parallax on the TLR bit me in the rear end on the first one, but I still like 'em Pham Nuwen fucked around with this message at 06:25 on Jan 15, 2017 |

Thanks for the recommendations on the books. I ordered most of them on amazon. That topography book was insanely expensive, so gently caress that. This thread has me more confused about photography than I have ever been, so hopefully they will help out (probably not). I should have just stuck to taking pictures of my vacations, kids, and family, haha.

Just keep taking pictures until you find your way and stop posting like you're a grizzled veteran. Eventually your aesthetic sense will develop and the really hard part begins.

alkanphel posted:I usually think it's better to take photos for yourself and that you enjoy, instead of thinking about what other people would like to see in your photos. But of course if you enjoy seeing other people like the photos you shoot, that's fair too. Well, that was kind of what I was trying to get at. The perspectives I see and enjoy are usually not always what other people see, so I try to get what they might not think of. I enjoy the perspectives I get, but I'm always trying to think of ways to make them better, which is why I always feel somewhat dissatisfied with my shots. Anyway, I like this: Untitled by Ryan Sees What, on Flickr But I want to see what I can get next time this kind of opportunity arises.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll revisit tomorrow when I have wifi again!

I would think most people take perspective shots of ladders and light-contrast shots from inside the dwellings. Why do you want the "everyone simply must point a camera at" shots? Yesssss (If that's where I think it is, that parking garage is very photogenic; I'm sure security there is used to it, but I expect they'll confront me when I wander through there one of these days) EDIT: I forgot to note that I did a 1x1 crop on the sunset reflection photo I previously posted. I agree that it looks better this way. Untitled by Ryan Sees What, on Flickr And I never know what to make of sunset silhouette photos, but I like this one. Two different crops, which works best? The first captures more of the clouds, which I like, but the portrait shot emphasizes the tower and its cables better. Portrait shot is better... but I'd have given the top of the tower more room to breathe.
