Sweet, an assault event. I'd rather have 8 assaults on my team than 8 lights as during the previous event.

Zyphoid posted:I'm curious as to why you are running the LBX over AC on the IS side? Clan side it makes perfect sense as the AC's are multi shot. But on the IS side why wouldn't you always take the pinpoint damage? 2 less crits, 2 less tons of weight., and I find the spread doesn't really matter at long range, as the projectile velocity is low enough that I've found reliably hitting shots at 600+ is pretty sketchy, so you might as well use the LBX. The bonus against internals is nice as well, and when you get into proper pinpoint range you can still put all your damage on a component. LBX spread is more like artemis SRM 4s than SRM 6s

Legit surprised to see goons advocate XL King Crabs, considering that they have a massive side profile and arms that don't shield jack squat. Not my idea of an "all-CT" chassis for sure. Guess that since I don't own any XL larger than 300, and large XLs are hideously expensive, I'll probably level up at least the first variant on a standard engine and I'll see how often I lose side torsos before making a choice. (Or I'll put in that XL300 and see what happens to a very slow, very fragile, very murderous sniper or fire support assault) NihilCredo fucked around with this message at 19:43 on Aug 11, 2016 |

Don't put XLs on King Crabs unless you're doing some crazy dual-gauss/dual PPC build, any one of your torsos are easy isolated

People are saying to go xl because the drat things are a walking CT. They are super fragile as a result. If you're going to be a glass cannon hanging out in the second line might as well go hog wild and cram in all the guns you can.

King Crabs are great at facing mechs because very few opposing robots can facetank the damage from four UAC/5s cranking out DPS. Their weakness is getting flanked because then that DPS doesn't come into play, which means one or two bad alphas can end them something like this works http://mwo.smurfy-net.de/mechlab#i=238&l=20e2eaea8ff2b416e97a64dc54c13414dc245207

I can finally afford an Atlas and have a spare mechbay. I'm torn between the D-DC and the -S. Which is better the added tankiness or ECM?

Azuth0667 posted:I can finally afford an Atlas and have a spare mechbay. I'm torn between the D-DC and the -S. Which is better the added tankiness or ECM? The -S is the better brawler - ECM is useful but kinda situational, especially with Radar Deprivation in the picture. And the difference between 18 and 24 SRM-A is significant. The D-DC however is a much more versatile chassis, since you can mount smaller ballistics and bigger lasers for more midrange builds (and midrange also benefits more from ECM). You'll want to eventually get both + a third chassis anyway, because an assault without Speed Tweak is painful, but if you're going to only own one for a while I think you'll have more fun with the D-DC.

They're both good at different things. DDC is better for pubs since you get the ecm shield and can do the dual lbx version. S is great if you have a group that can escort you into the fight, at which point you will become death.

I ran the D with three lpls and an ac20. It's a servicable pubbie escort as you can poke a bit and brawl a bit.

I should switch to CBill farming mechs for the event, but drat I can't stop playing this AC20 Urbie. I just got 300 damage and a win on Alpine Peaks Conquest, literally the worst possible map/mode for the build Plus the Rasalhague camo looks so drat good on it:

Counterpoint to KGC XL Discussion: The KGC has pretty much the best torso twist you can get in an assault, it's a huge range of motion, and you should absolutely be using this to your advantage. I run all three of my KGCs with standard engines and almost never die without losing a side first. I run a double AC20 build, a double gauss, and quad uAC5s. The first two are big ballistics with a long cooldown which makes them absolutely ideal for twisting- the uAC5s not as much. Still, I don't consider the KGC to have such unbalanced hitboxes that I feel safe running an XL in them by any means, especially because your lack of structure quirks means everyone will bother XL checking you. Finally, unlike most mechs that are pretty much neutered when half is gone, you've still got pretty good firepower with half a King Crab, and have gone on to win a lot of games with a single AC20 + SRMs, etc.

Azuth0667 posted:D-DC and -S are easy picks for the first two chassis but, what should the third eventually be? I'd go to the R, it's tankier than the D and the K has the worst hardpoints. You can make a D work but it can't hit as hard as the others.

Azuth0667 posted:D-DC and -S are easy picks for the first two chassis but, what should the third eventually be? Metamechs suggests the baseline -D version. It's tanky, requires even more luck to crit than a 7, but is somewhat hampered by it's offensive quirks being AC/20 and missile specific. Also not as fast (or yaw-y) as the -S. It will probably have 22+ structure and similar to the rest of the X variants. No JJs = more tanky. It's basically an 0X that trades ECM for MASC and an extra laser hardpoint.

If you bought MC this year, you get a 4-missile blackjack. If you bought an IS pack, you get a MASC cataphract. If you bought a Clan pack, you get a hellbringer with an energy point in the RT. If you bought 2 IS COLLECTOR packs (wave, resistance, 2x40$, not 20$+hero or reinforcements), you get an ECM Stalker. If you bought 2 CLAN COLLECTOR packs (wave, resistance, 2x40$, not 20$+hero or reinforcements), you get 2 summoners with 1 side-torso energy mount each. If you qualify for both of the collector packs (80$ sphere + 80$ clan) you get 2 cockpit items and 2 warhorns. Yolomon Wayne fucked around with this message at 11:04 on Aug 12, 2016 |

The Blackjack looks fun. Looks like it can run either 4x ASRM4s with a standard engine, or 4x ASRM6s with an XL. Backup lasers probably won't be worth it unless they're heavily quirked, since you'd have to also armour up the arms. The Stalker won't be as disgusting as it would have been with 5M-type hardpoints, but it's still gonna be an absolutely murderous 4x PPC sniper. Lol at buying mech packs though, let alone top tier ones.
