Miss Lonelyhearts posted:Wonderful ideas, I currently have their pen under a mountain but will change things up. Also did not know kibble won't spoil, sounds like assigning space for just kibble and feed in their barn is the solution. Thanks The changes that made items decay when left outdoors changed up stockpile management quite a bit honestly. I hadn't played since like A8 and just recently came back. Being able to set trade beacons indoors is a refreshing change. Herbal medicine needs to be frozen or it will spoil in ~120 days, so it's worth it to keep a stack or two in the freezer if you're growing healroot. Other types of medicine do not spoil, but will decay if left outside. Keep wool/cloth indoors or it will decay. Leather does not, however, so set your stockpile accordingly. Wood also decays and I try to make room for it indoors eventually, though it's not my #1 priority since it's pretty easy to come by in the wild and farms are pretty hands off too. All types of weapons and clothing will decay outdoors, though equipment racks supposedly prevent that. I just keep a sizable stockpile indoors for just weapons and apparel, for new colonists and/or the rare trader that will take them off my hands. That's all I think you have to worry about as far as spoilage/decay goes I believe. Stuff like metal, stone bricks, etc. can be kept in an outdoor stockpile. E; Veggies and Meat obv spoil too, but everyone knows that. NatasDog fucked around with this message at 19:38 on Aug 12, 2016 |

Specifically, things decay if they are on an unroofed tile. You can make a woodshed with a single tile pillar and designated roof space and it will work just as well as a fully walled area.

I finished my first ship last night on randy rough! I did leave 2 people behind, but oh well. Getting 13/15 people off the planet is pretty good. Overall it was a very boring game, with Randy sending very few raids my way, mostly just tons of cargo pods. Think I'm going to go for combat realism mod next time.

Is there a demo or a free older version available? I don't have the money to buy it for another 2-3 weeks (so buy and potentially refund is not an option), but I really want to check this game out. I played a ton of Dwarf Fortress years ago so this is extremely my poo poo, but I've been burned on too many games that emulate DF.

Good to note that it's okay to have things like wood or cloth "outdoors" but with a roof overhead, so you can just build 1 tile of wall and have a 20x20 roofed area for your stockpile if you want. a7m2 posted:Is there a demo or a free older version available? Vargs posted:Mending mod lets you repair stuff. I suggest the easy version because the materials needed to repair things in the normal one are quite honestly ridiculous and not worth bothering with imo. I set all colonists to only wear gear with 51%+ durability, and have a bunch of extras in storage. Once their clothes are tattered, they drop em and go pick up some new ones. The tattered stuff is put back in storage and gets automatically mended by my crafter at some point. It's all very convenient and hands-free once you have it set up. How do you set colonists to only wear gear with 51%+ durability?

You can change outfit settings for that, although if you don't actually have any apparel that meets the criteria then they may end up naked.

I installed the following mods: Common thingy Combat Realism Combat Realism Defense Industrialization I'm running into a weird bug where one of my people gets stuck in an infinite loop of picking up a stack of corn, setting it down on the next tile, picking it up, putting it down on the original tile, forever. Any ideas?

Are there any mods which remove bleeding as a condition, or was it maybe removed in a patch? For some reason, nothing that's harmed in my games seems to actually bleed anymore, regardless of the % blood loss indicated by the wound tooltips. It's not an urgent sort of thing, just curious that it's happening now.

If you keep and breed animals, you're basically guaranteed to have at least a third of the artwork your colonists make be either about animals vomiting or animals being trained. I had a builder make a double bed with some incredibly raunchy artwork on it depicting her and her new lover in the throes of passion, I was sorta impressed and horrified at the same time. Other colonists kept popping in to admire it

I tamed a bunch of foxes (they can haul!) and now all of my artwork is of my otherwise useless fat gently caress sheriff training foxes while they turn into mushrooms. Also my artist is apparently a PETA member because all of his animal taming and hunting artwork are called "Terrorism #" or "An Animal Terrorism" or things like that.

Just had an amazing start with the rich explorer. Found a literally perfect place to hole up and start getting rich....and then he got malaria and died. No matter how far back i went on the autosaves he would always get malaria at that same point. Weird as poo poo, and it really makes me miss a mod or ingame support for self-medicating as a last resort
|
# ? Aug 13, 2016 13:10 |
I dunno if it's anything like real life, but Malaria symptoms can, in rare cases, take up to a year to surface. Usually it's 7 - 30 days though.

First, make sure they're actually checkboxed in the mods section of the main menu. Second, the Prepare Carefully window is toggled by a button on the bottom of the pawn generation panel. You have to select your start and map area first.

drat, people weren't kidding when they said that Randy is the way to go. I think I have made it further than any other time, and now I am actually to the point where I am trying to make ship parts. Either that or switching out my "turrets first" for proper bunkers has just been that effective, now that I am not getting people with rocket launchers banging down my door in the first spring.

You say that but when the 40 tribesmen come and burn down your base, you will hate Randy Random. I'm still mad about that. Watching of hours of work burn as it was desperately put out by the remaining colonists, who promptly went insane, was disheartening. But that's Rim World.
