Bahaha, I just remembered that one time some bitcoin shill went deep undercover in a camgirl forum. It took these "dumb sluts" something like three posts to figure out who he is, what bitcoins really are and that he has no idea what he's talking about. They absolutely destroyed him.

I've been watching Person of Interest (probably my favorite show of the year, final season just wrapped up) and at some point they have to set up a small server farm and there's this great scene where all of these systems are overheating and the main action character who doesn't know much about computers just starts spraying liquid nitrogen on the server racks, seemed like peak bitcoin

Cojawfee posted:How do investments go to -100k? He shorted a penny stock which then skyrocketed. It later crashed to bankruptcy (meaning he woulda made money) but his brokerage margin called him because he was -$100k and closed out the account haha. When you short you borrow stocks, sell them, then hope later the price is lower than you sold it for. Later you need to 'cover' your short by buying the stock back and returning the shares to the person you borrowed them from (usually your broker). This is pretty much all automated nowadays but that is what happens. That's why your broker needs to have the stock in their 'inventory' (or get them from a clearing house or whatever) for you to short it. So, what happens if you borrow stocks and sell them for $0.50 each but suddenly they are worth $80/ea and your broker is going 'hey I want that back now before the price goes up anymore because we have no confidence in your ability to repay us and we aren't going to absorb this loss anymore?' You're hosed that's what. Dude was an idiot for shorting a penny stock and for not having a stop loss set up (not that it'll save you if the price moves fast enough). Generally it's a moronic idea to short penny stocks for exactly this reason but ofc that doesn't stop lazy 'get rich quick' people from doing it. I dont know how kosher it is to ask about the online drug trade but what stops some agents from buying a bunch of coke, and then tracing where the bitcoins go since its a open ledger.

They create a new wallet to receive the drug money and then send it through a tumbling service that splits the bitcoin into several randomly sized chunks. The chunks move around and mix up with all the bitcoins from everyone else who uses the service for a while and then eventually they all come back out into another wallet no one knows about. Apparently you can sort of track it by sending really small amounts of bitcoin to an address but in most cases, it's just gone into the ether. Edit: You could probably just follow all the bitcoins going into a tumbling service because they are probably all related to something illegal and just arrest whoever is on the other side and figure out their crime later. But then you could also just arrest anyone who uses bitcoin since its own purpose is to buy drugs, child pornography, and fake assassinations.

That is exactly what they do, and why it took so long to shut down silk road. They had FBI agents in there for like a year, and could have said "these guys are selling cyanide, let's shut it down now", but instead used it to bust a bunch of junkies and lovely dealers.

I would like to think that he had connections to pot growers, but it totally possible he just had a Medical Pot card and went to a pot shop to fill orders. I live in the central valley and their are loving green cross shops everywhere hell i have a cousin who basically sleeps in one, he says its a bunch of gangbangers trying to go legit. I can also say this you get these growers and gently caress everyone one is growing. The first step is to hot tap the power to your house to steal electricity. New homes that dont have a over head drop from the pole ( a weather head) but instead have conduct from the ground. Seems the conduct is plastic so put on some line man gloves and take some nylon rope and a few hours of rubbing you can tap into the power. Now with all those lights your are gonna need some cooling, so most growers get a mini split system. I had a system put in my workshop and they install thought I was gonna grow pot hence the weird conversation about how they do this poo poo. The current big thing is THC extract or wax/shatter If you see a bunch of butane bottles in a dumpster that is what they were making. I saw apartment building a few blocks from me burn down because the assholes was doing that poo poo inside and turned on his loving garbage disposal.

SingularDTV: a “blockchain entertainment studio” using Ethereum for DRM on their totally boss sci-fi TV show about the Singularity. My latest missive to the musicians on why this poo poo is terrible and if you hear the word "blockchain" you should reach for your revolver. Let me link their sci-fi show synopsis. A worldwide economic collapse, as predicted by Austrian economics (predictor of 200 of the last 2 recessions), leads to a fictional Caribbean island being the richest place in the world because it adopted Ethereum first, somehow leading to an artificial intelligence taking over the world. They seriously predict that two million people will get into Ethereum to buy each episode. Note that Imogen Heap sold $121 of her record, and it's no longer on sale.

Wow, I knew bitcoin made people stupid, but I didn't realize it made people that stupid. Anyone can buy any domain as long as they outbid the last person. As in you bid on a domain and then make it popular. Then someone can come bid on it again at any time and take it if they bid more than you. Once someone buys the domain you've built up, you don't get anything for it. In order to get it back, you have to bid again and spend even more. I didn't read their essay, so I don't know where the money goes. I'm assuming all the money goes directly to them, because bitcoin. Then they say this removes corporate control. Fuckin Anyone could build up a community around a domain and any corporation with more money than that person can steal it. Then they could set the price so high that the original owner could never afford to buy it back.
