Dear god

Holy christ I didn't realize Abby2 gives free charges. Actual question, how would you guys deal with this list? It's just so many things you have to kill and that many Shredders all flanking off each other and being bitey jerks and healing constantly. My first thought would be elite infantry (ala Dawnguard Sentinels), though the Archangel should be able to clear them really well with Dragon Breath, I think.

I hope that list poops on everyone though because it's a hilarious list.

I'd use AOEs, electroleaps, or sprays. they're armor 13, so even blast damage stands a good chance of pinging them. They've got 13 boxes, so even 4-5 points of damage per stands a good chance of knocking out an aspect or two.

So did they actually give Legion any good infantry in exchange for hamstringing their Warbeast game? I'm looking at the Legion infantry and god it all looks terrible. Like comparing them to Dawnguard Sentinels isn't necessarily the most fair comparison because Sentinels own, but at the same time if you took everything good about Legionnaires and Swordsmen, mashed it together, and made it even better you'd get Dawnguard Sentinels for 20% more cost and 1200% more effectiveness. Legionnaires are tougher but P+S 10 infantry that's 15 points for 10 of them and needs a character attachment to make them not toothless is pretty uninspiring.

I want to like my Legion because they're basically the Kaiju faction and it's rad as hell, but when I look at their cards my reaction is a resounding :mediocre:

Other than the Hellmouth, which looks awesome and I need to buy one.

Shredders are pretty poo poo, though. Abby2 can make them work, but who else? It's not like Legion players seem all that enamored with the Beast Mistress, although she looks okay to me.
And Abby2 is probably better with the Wasps, too.

I have never seen super glue that you don't refridgerate, yeah.
I always keep it wrapped in toilet paper in a glass jar because I'm irrationally afraid of not closing it properly and somehow seeing my entire fridge ruined by super glue.

They look fun in theory with Thagrosh2, though they haven't worked super well for me. Adelphophagy (whatever the spelling is) is a huge pile of poo poo on a piece that otherwise lends itself really well to running swarms of them and just frenzying everywhere and ignoring your Fury.

S.J. posted:

I haven't played much with the infantry but I've played some Legion since Mk3 and it didn't feel great (which is partly why I'm asking here). I ran something along the lines of Thag2, a Scythean, Warspears w/ UA, a Shepherd, a Forsaken, and a pile of Shredders. Not being able to do much, Fury-wise, with my Shredders without having them devour each other was really lovely. Running a ton of Shredders was probably a mistake, it's just something I've loved doing since Mk2 because they were hilarious in Mk2.

For the record I'm totally open to being wrong (and even really wanting to be wrong!) about Legion feeling bad to play and being poopy in Mk3. I want to love all my factions, and most of the time when stuff doesn't feel good to play I assume it's because I'm doing dumb and bad things with it. I'm just not seeing where to do things better.

PP not bringing Warmachine and Hordes infantry closer together the same way they did jacks and beasts is one of my main issues with Mk3, but Legion made out pretty well imo.
Swordsmen, Banshees, Warspears and both Strider units are all good, I think (I haven't played against the Blightblades yet, though). And I expect to see a lot of double Hellmouths now that thing's out. And if you're playing a Minion-friendly Warlock, Brigands exist and are possibly the best Hordes unit.
Legionnaires are bizarrely overcosted, though, and I have no idea why they even changed at all. They were fine the way they were in Mk2.

My worry with Swordsmen is that they look like they'll die to a stiff breeze and I'll basically piss 15 points down the drain if my opponent has literally any AOEs.

On the other hand, I feel like I'm basically the only player in my group who ever fields anything with AOEs and it's pretty hard to have P+S Weaponmasters actually be bad unless they're horribly expensive, and Swordsmen are reasonably priced.

Banshees look phenomenal though, I've been playing with Reductors in CoC recently who have the same general idea (cheap infantry with decent POW SP6s) and loving them to bits because they like mow down enemy infantry like it's no one's business.

Dude, positioning. Almost all light infantry have to worry about AoEs by default but you can still spread your dudes out to mitigate it. Your gargoyle units/solos are legit though.

AoEs are a problem, yeah, but 14/13 isn't a bad statline in Mk3, all things considered.

I can't complain, because I've been the beneficiary of this beforehand (near full faction of Skorne for 20-25% of retail) but watching people jump off perceived bad factions for good ones is a bit sad. I guess I'm not much better (started Ret in the runup to MKIII, though way before the previews) and I have to say the faction change is why I've been more successful now. Not having to fight against your army to get it to work is a novel war machine experience to me.

As an aside, I'm caster swapping next week for the Journeyman. Helynna has been way too much of a ball buster in early play, and I'm looking to tone things down with a less good caster. So I'm thinking Kaelyssa if only because she doesn't play shoot and scoot beyond the single refuge target (usually herself) and lacks a spell to to generalized buffing on the same level as Hand of Destruction. Is this a good plan, or did I yet again choose one of the Ret power casters? I can do anything but Thyron and Assyria, and would prefer to avoid Ravyn since the other Ret player wants to use her for some unknown reason. Maybe I go with Garyth and just play 3 weeks of assassination only, but that seems to be pretty awful to play against in most cases when you're still learning.
