shiksa posted:i dont get why a shadowy cabal of russian oligarchs is any better than a shadowy cabal of (((globalists))) but i guess im just not woke enough to reject all mainstream media and buy literal russian state propaganda as gospel I purposefully sought to read about these things from Western media and drew the same conclusions. The Russian oligarchs involved here are also Jewish by and large so the (((echo))) makes no sense. The idea would be to give Russia a more fruitful path than the one we and Tymo forced them onto. We gave them one good strategic path which was: take back a historical territory of strategic importance and simultaneously shift all oil and gas sales to China instead of to Europe through the Ukraine. If Tymoshenko et al hadn't constantly broken their contracts or refused to pay Russia money legally owed this wouldn't have happened. It was clear that the government replacing Yanukovych would not be upholding the Kharkiv pact and that Russia would be removed from Crimea if the Ukraine no longer needed their gas. Would the US accept the removal of a foreign strategic base in such a case? I doubt it.

Though he says it's "nicknamed the Gawker Bill,"... cold quote:...a Google search shows it's rarely called that, and the first reference is here, on a small, far-right blog that touts itself as being featured on Sean Hannity and rush Limbaugh. heh

Aside from the massive boner that they get from Authoritarian regimes that dwell in the realm of plausible deniability, I have the sinking feeling that a lot of Conservatives like Russia because it steps on gay people just the right amount for them to find it palatable, but not enough for them to feel guilty. It's like a hosed-up Homophobic Goldilocks: United States too soft, Iran too hard, Russia just right.

GOP officials have got to be scrambling behind the scenes about potential fallout with Manafort. I really think some bad poo poo is going to come out about him... I didn't really know anything about the dude until recently, so I read his wikipedia page. What the gently caress? We have HUD scandals, involvement with Pakistani intelligence, selling French submarines to Pakistan, etc quote:Manafort received $700,000 from the Kashmiri American Council between 1990 and 1994, supposedly to promote the plight of the Kashmiri people. However, an FBI investigation revealed the money was actually from Pakistan's Inter-Service Intelligence agency as part of a disinformation operation to divert attention from terrorism. A former Pakistani ISI official claimed Manafort was aware of the nature of the operation.[21] While producing a documentary as part of the deal, Manafort interviewed several Indian officials while pretending to be a CNN reporter

I don't think this is right. Authority boners is on point, but the gay thing is absurd. The conservatives who care that much about gay people and SINNN are not the ones who like Russia. In fact, they're ignoring Trump's Russia poo poo just like they're ignoring his life of sin and debauchery and his wooden LGBT praise because the authority boner thing is all they needed.

Don't even bother with Oiled and Ready, he's transparently insincere. Putin apologism is just trendy with the alt-right conspiracy theorists he patterns his gimmick off of. In more serious Russian connection discussion, there hasn't been a whole lot out of Clinton or Trump directly about this stuff yet. There were a few trial balloons out of the Clinton camp talking about how these connections were troubling and warranted a closer look, but they seem to be holding off to see if the story develops more first - it's a big deal implying your opponent's campaign is being manipulated by a foreign power (well, unless you're Trump). Trump, though, the story might just not have really penetrated to him yet and he could easily make it worse with some off-the-cuff remarks about how we should all be interested in more cooperation with Russia. I guess things might be in a holding pattern to see if more material comes out or Trump manages to whip up the story himself.
