I find your lack of faith... disturbing
Got into America by pretending to be an Olympian and met Greg Jackson, who let him stay on his couch. He made a bunch of money after 9/11 by being a terrorist informant for the NYPD, according to that book, but the FBI figured he was lying because he couldn't pass a polygraph and never actually told them anything useful so they kicked him out of the program. now he's a sometimes manager of Frankie Edgar, Khabib, Dos Anjos and Werdum. Long time defender of palhares. He's the best

Eat Bum Zen posted:

who is this guy? like, what's his significance?

He was an executive at WSOF while being a manager of fighters in the WSOF, but didn't see a conflict of interest until they shitcanned him.

Before that, He was an informant for the FBI against Muslims In America, but was shitcanned for passing bogus reports to his handlers and possibly being a double agent.

Choice quotes:

quote:

In September 2001, just days after 9/11 a young Egyptian national was arrested trying to sneak into the United States via Colorado using a falsified passport.

Ali Abdel Aziz, AKA Ali Ibrahim, AKA Ali A. Aziz, AKA Alaa Abdel Aziz, told investigators that he was an Olympic judoka who came to Colorado to train at the Olympic Training Center (OTC) in Colorado Springs, and to make money to send back home to his ailing mother. He claimed that she died three months after his arrest and submitted her death certificate, which he purportedly got his girlfriend to fly back to Egypt to get, as evidence for his trial.

quote:

For starters, Abdel-Aziz never competed at the Olympics in 1996 like he claimed. In fact, he had never competed at any Olympics at all. He used the lie as a cover to explain to authorities why he was flying into the location of a Muslim sect with extremist ties with a forged document and an imaginary identity.

According to his Dominance MMA bio and a recent interview Abdel Aziz is still keeping up with the fake Olympic competition claim. It even states that he made the move to train at the [U.S.] Olympic training Center in Colorado Springs… while going to school and supporting his family in Egypt.” In reality, he was chased out of the OTC by security guards in 2004. They recognized him from the “NOT ALLOWED ON PREMISES” memo the the FBI had tacked above the doors of every security post on the compound.

quote:

Abdel Aziz was officially let go from his role as FBI informant soon after failing a polygraph test administered by the at bureau headquarters in NYC on April 4, 2008. The test was called after agents in the field suspected Abdel Aziz was acting as a double agent. His stories didn’t seem to add up and some of the intel he was giving them turned out to be bogus. Results from that test indicated he was deceiving investigators about his sharing of sensitive information about his top-secret eight-year operation as an embedded Muslims of America operative with someone back in Egypt.

It's a great read, he's a pathological liar. But he's also a B-league manager and this belongs in the relevant thread. I mistakenly inferred he was hopping on the Jones bandwagon to sue the USADA on his behalf or something.

Instead I think conor will just throw more dumb kicks in a shorter timespan and gas at exactly the same time 4 minutes in

excuse the incoming bro science here, and the 4th consectuive post, but U can gain a lot of cardio ability in just a few months. especially with a bike since the joints arent stressed, you arent limited by the threat of acute injury but rather what you can eat and recover from. theres a big 80kg russian guy on my team who doesnt train at all in the winter, when it comes time for the first races in feb he does 2 insane 40 hour training weeks and that puts him roughly where i would be at (i train about 15-20 hrs a week in winter and i put on 20lbs and lose it through the spring, so a little off form). obviously different people are capable of different things and its easier to get back what you've lost rather than make new gains, but i wouldn't necessarily discount it. he wont catch up to diaz but he can get what he needs probably, his coach will know better than any of us

this is incredibly interesting

however, we're not talking about conor somehow achieving the fitness to go 5 rounds. i'm confident he can do that already. what we're talking about is attaining the level of fitness necessary to fight at diaz's pace for 5 rounds. there are only a handful of people in mma who can go 5 rounds wherever the fight takes them and still be fighting in the fifth like they fought in the first. the diaz's are among those. their level of fight fitness is incredible even among champions like dom cruz, who slows, or jose aldo, who traditionally visibly wilted. the diaz's are a different animal.

It is for a guy who couldn't out-pace Diaz for more than a round without being finished, and couldn't keep Diaz off of him at the first sign of trouble.

I think he 'can', but all the prior evidence says that it's not very likely, that's all.

pulling this completely out of my rear end but i wonder if the diaz brothers' historical problems with wrestlers is because the kind of long slow distance cardio they excel at is more directly applicable to their fighting style compared to the explosive push/pull stuff :hmm:

thats probably about right. you have to specialise, its a rare athlete than can excel at both. its why you have sprinters and climbers in cycling, theres only been a few in history that could do both
