American President Woodrow Wilson's favorite film was Birth of a Nation and he held screenings of it at the white house. If you aren't familiar with the film, it pretty much portrays African-Americans as ooga-booga savages with an insatiable lust to rape white women.

Currently in prison serving a 25-year sentence, Viktor Bout is basically a real-life James Bond villain. He's a former Soviet Army Intelligence Officer, speaks six languages, financed terrorism, and smuggled weapons past sanctions across Africa and elsewhere. Through a poorly-overseen process of contractors and sub-contractors, he almost definitely transported weapons into Afghanistan for the U.S. government. When he was sentenced, his wife was interviewed and she basically said, "Yeah, that sounds about right." His story is really fascinating, and kind of unbelievable.

Woodrow Wilson was angry and embarrassed that he allowed some acquaintances to stage a screening of that film at the White House without running a check on it first, and he left the party immediately after the screening in a hurry, and visibly distressed, according to witnesses. He also later described the affair as "unfortunate" in personal letters, and criticized the film itself. There's no clear source for the supposed quotes of him applauding the film, all references seem to be pointing to hearsay and apocryphal sources.

Though it seems the argument being made is that the other search engines do fill in criminal misconduct poo poo (as well as for a number of other celebrities I tried just now). If it's just googles policy to sort of hide shady poo poo beyond direct searches for it generally then I retract my lunatic fringe conspiracy theorem. Mostly I thought it was funny that they'd gently caress with search results, but not gently caress with search results about loving with search results.

On February 4, 2014, it was announced that LAPD chief Charlie Beck had determined that eight officers violated the LAPD's use-of-force policy and would be disciplined. Beck noted that California state law prevents him from disclosing the nature of the discipline publicly, but that discipline could range "from extensive retraining up to termination." read: we aren't doing anything further. please refrain from further questions. thanks.
