I only like the cashmere cat produced song "Just luv me" everything else sounds kinda generic-y or I don't know not for me.

That song blows (but it's still hella catchy). there's a world where that song's hook just had slightly better instrumentation under it (like some loud brass or something) and it become a huge hit and i'm glad it didn't happen like, I Really Like You is a little bit in that vain, but it's nowhere near as obnoxious

MooCowlian posted:Lily Allen's second and third albums are still pretty good, but definitely less interesting. Duffy and Kate Nash, on the other hand as far as I can tell from both my memory and wikipedia, they were basically one hit wonder situations. I really like Mercy and Foundations, but neither of them seemed to have produced much else of note. If we're talking about female solo artists who boomed and then vanished in the mid noughties, though, how about Katie Melua and Gabriella Cilmi? There's also K. T. Tunstall, maybe Joss Stone, Little Boots (who's a different style from the rest of them but emerged around the same time). I like Imelda May a lot. I only know most of these people because there was one girl in my school in that roughly 2003-2008 period who was an aspiring blues/soul singer and knew most of their collective repertoire off by heart.

I couldn't even make it through her latest CD though, the first 4 or so songs didn't do anything for me when I first listened to it

Oh. I know she did that supergroup album with Mick Jagger but I hadn't realised she had a new CD. You'd think after all these years she'd be able to afford shoes to perform in.

Somebody had a bit of a hole in their pocket when they first got famous, I think. Also I'm so glad that she doesn't sound like that anymore. I will take an 80s synth over an acoustic guitar pretty much any day, especially in my pop music.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ntlpTad3PLM This is a pretty cool Empire of the Sun track and video. Albums out on the 28th of October. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WLUDxVezNes This is a pretty cute Tegan and Sara track and video. The album is also pretty nice. This is really bad. I re-listened to all Gaga albums a few weeks ago and The Fame and The Fame Monster are the only ones that actually hold up. Born This Way is OK-ish but Artpop is a mess.

Artpop is genuinely my favourite Gaga work other than Fame Monster. I never really understood the dislike. It's so unique with so many cool sounds. Aura, Sexxx Dreams, Do What U Want, Gypsy, and Applause at LEAST are excellent. Would be an even better album overall without the Donatella/Fashion!/Mary Jane Holland part too. edit: however, I will totally admit it has one of the all-time terrible covers. ive made this post like 15 times on this forum at this point but Artpop is the best Gaga album and the best pop album of 2013. heck it'd be hard for me to choose between it and newer albums like Art Angels or Emotion. it's a fantastic record, every song is great, the production is unmatched, and it still sounds futuristic as heck Perfect Illusion sounds fine. I didn't love Applause at first listen but this has grown on me just like it did. whoever said it seems really thin is totally right, it needs more verse and less chorus (and whoever compared it to a Eurovision song was 800% spot-on). at the same time, I think it could work better in the album than as a standalone single, cuz Artpop has plenty of "thin" songs that are great (Fashion!) i'm allowing myself to get cautiously optimistic about this record on the strength of that song, at least! which is more than i was expecting from Gaga cuz I figured Artpop being a flop meant she would turn into a more boring direction, and it seems like she still might, but at least her voice is still great?
