Is it worth throwing my High Elves onto eBay? I've got two lion chariots, a lord on a dragon, some dragon princes (six I think?) a unit of 20 spearmen, a unit of 20 Swordsmen of Hoeth and a few special characters. They're all painted by my Dad and are really high standard (when he was younger he was an artist).

I can't decide if they won't move at all or if people would be willing to throw away some money on the things.

They'll sell if they're priced right.

For painted minis especially, you need to take lots of very good photos. Do not just take a quick snapshot with your phone in poor light and leave it at that. You need to sell them as being very well painted, because otherwise, painted minis are worth less than new in box (on the basic assumption that they'll need to be stripped and repainted, plus some may be damaged, you didn't base them well, they don't rank up properly, and you did a really bad job of cleaning and gluing the parts together, all of which are totally the norm for used eBay warhammer lots).

Do a few searches on eBay for comparable lots and watch them to see what they actually sell for - many are overpiced and will not sell, so you can't just go by listed price.

Also consider selling to goons? If you put them up in SA-Mart and link to that thread from the warhammer fantasy thread, you probably won't get quite as much money as eBay but you'll also have less of a chance of having to deal with some random jerk (instead it will be a well-known, non-random jerk).

I've had mixed success selling GW models in a post Sigmar world. My Tomb Kings went fairly quickly but others are not going as well. Anything open will probably be worth about 50% of new and if they are painted probably less since there's the effort involved of stripping them. Of course with Age of Sigmar that's probably less since people aren't playing 9th Age or Kings of War in the same numbers as Fantasy.

GW parking lots are a good place to find buyers if you know the regulars there otherwise it's creepy.

I picked up all the chaos I could possibly want on eBay after AoS dropped and I never paid more than 50% of retail, and that was just for single models. If I was buying an unboxed lot I would aim for 25% of retail when coming up with an offer to their buy it now price and got it pretty often, if they wanted more I was able to usually get it for 33% of retail. I'd imagine there aren't as many people ragequitting the game at this point but if your elves have sentimental value it's probably better to hang onto them instead of trying to hock them, it will most likely be more trouble than it's worth to try and get a fair price.

It wasn't that bad, just people going WTF after someone talked to CB and discovered that the Order of Dobrzyń was a deliberate nod to Poles. Kinda weird seeing as for a long time the Teutonic Order was the symbol for the ~evil Germanic invader~.

Where were those rules published? They don't appear anywhere in the core rulebook that I can find, and I don't recall anything like that ever appearing in any of the supplements they had in their little magazines.

The Inquisitorial Acolytes supplement had a torturer character class, rules for torture (PROTIP: it always works and better gear gives bonuses to the roll) and an equipment list of torture implements. Heck, the core rulebook had a Dark Eldar equipment set purchasable from the outset, including torture devices.

I assume you mean this supplement, from Fanatic #92: http://www.specialist-arms.com/fanatic/92tjroaai.pdf

However, there were no Dark Eldar weapons available in the core rulebook and nothing I can find that references torture in it either (or even really much that happens outside of combat).

That's generally a worse policy than just warning people about the event schedule, because you can't always predict event size before it happens.

I mean, it presumably works better if you're super non-confrontational, but you miss out on people using the space (which often leads to business) so it's not optimal.

But then I realize I'd have to talk to 40k players to do this.

Naw. I fire-saled all my fantasy except for my lizardmen because A) they were painted and B) Kings of War.
Dumping all 40k except for tyranids because A) I have a cool theme and they are coming along paint wise and B) most people around here play 40k and it is pretty slim pickings in the middle of midwest.

Unless you mean minis in general. Then yeah. I still get my plastic crack from nicer dealers that sell a better product cheaper.

We just start warning people off of tables we might need around a half an hour beforehand so we've got a more accurate idea of what we need. But we let them know well beforehand that they might need to move so they don't feel like they're getting jumped on at the last moment.

We're pretty sociable with our customers on a regular basis unless we're getting really hammered on the retail side, so it's rarely an issue.

Which is something game stores need to do, hire people who first and foremost have good retail/social skills rather than people who happen to be into this game or that. You can learn a game.

I live near the North West Gaming Centre and I've still never seen a Kings of War player. Unfortunately they're with my Dad at the moment and I'm not going to see him for a while - I'll post a few pictures next week. I dunno if the paintjob is hosed now they've been sat in a box with a load of cotton wool for ages but I can't imagine it'll be that bad.

I have a bunch of super old skaven as well that are all unpainted apart from Boneripper. I don't expect to get much, I just want to get rid honestly.

Also what sort of GW has a car park?

They're lion chariots. Do those even still exist/exist in KoW?

It's £120 to ship a 5kg parcel to Thailand though using Royal Mail, I dunno where you're finding cheap shipping!

In Kings of War it's just "chariot". So long as I can get 2-3 of them on a 150x100 base, I'm good. Normally when I eBay stuff it's not 5kg of miniatures, it's usually a regiment or monster. I've never really paid more than £10 and then that feels excessive. Looking at eBay right now, I'm seeing various units for £5 or £6 shipping, with a new in box Dragon Princes set going for £8 shipping. That particular one has a way higher buy now price than the others, so maybe they're trying to make up the cost of shipping in the cost of the item? That used to be a really common eBay seller tactic. It does vary a lot though, sometimes shipping is as high as £20 for a few models. I just never bid on or purchase those. I have no idea where the variance comes from though.

Edit: Just looking at Elf Chariots, a lion chariot ships for £4, the 5e chariot ships for £8, and the 4e chariot ships for £24. gently caress if I know why.

The 5e version is all metal except for the horses and I think large portions of it are the same as the 4e one.

Edit: I found a different 4e one that ships for £5. I think it has to do with if the seller puts duty protection on the item or not. None of my packages have ever been searched and it's not like the Thai government would see a package with an old miniature in it and think it was worth anything. So long as the declared value is reasonable it goes right through.

One of the good things about fantasy exploding is that instead of buying new stuff for my army I can now take that money and buy stuff I want to paint instead.

I'm almost done with the celestial whatever and I think I'm going to paint a slann after a couple dozen more dorfs
