Why is "terrier" a category when there are at least 27 different terrier breeds?

Are there any other examples of treemaps in the wild (where "the wild" is "the news media or clickbait or infographics")? I know the wikipedia import/export graphs use treemaps, and there's the map of the market, and some disk space analysis software, but all of those applications are sort of for wonks anyway. I am trying to think of where the general public would see a fair number of hierarchical quantities where a bar chart wouldn't be a better option.

The difference between a "<insert breed here> Mix" and a "mix" is the first costs triple an <insert breed here>, and the second costs dog food and vaccinations. Both will probably have serious health issues a few years down the line.

Some people want agility dogs or hunting dogs or tracking dogs (or even protection dogs, though I'm kinda iffy on those personally), and want to have an exact health history that you don't get with a mutt. Assuming every breeder is just making show dogs isn't correct, some prefer working dogs, and mutts still have the possibility of inheriting whatever issues purebreds can get, so it's kind of a crapshoot. Ofc you're not going to see them on craigslist or whatever for obvious reasons, but saying "all dog breeding is bad" is just disingenuous. This isn't to say "think of the breeders!" it's just pointing out that not everyone is rubbing their grubby hands together and posting "puppies available in 5 weeks!" while their brother-sister AKC certified pugs are goin' at it

I was discussing this scientific paper with some friends. It purports to show a link between homophobia and being aroused by homosexual pornography. Self-identified heterosexual men were given a test battery to determine whether or not they were homophobic. The homophobic and non-homophobic men were then presented with heterosexual pornography and homosexual pornography and checked for arousal. Arousal was determined both by using a device that measures changes in the size of the penis and by directly asking men whether they experienced arousal. Both homophobic and non-homophobic men were aroused by the heterosexual pornography. However, the homophobic men were also aroused by the homosexual pornography, though they denied it. This is the source of the oft-repeated claim that homophobic men are often closet homosexuals themselves (along with numerous anecdotes of anti-gay politicians being outed as gay). One woman in the discussion did not approve of the paper's conclusion. Her alternative hypothesis was that the homophobic men were simply liable to be aroused by any depiction of sex, including animal porn. She produced this graph, which... well, just take a look.

I like how generic each of those test parameters are. Even if the data is 100% perfect, that's like saying "Oh, she has an allergic reaction to contact with a creature from the Animalia kingdom"

I can't even buy that it's a real graph. I don't have any way of interpreting it and a lot of the gay man lines go backward on the x axis. It's a joke, right? Like somebody scribbled in MSpaint on a grid?

I'm aroused by point 20, the transition between gay sex and robot sex. Gay robots having sex. Or robots sexing gay people. Guess I'm either homosexual or homophobic. I'm not into 8, the transition between fat people loving food and animals loving each other (fat people loving dead animals?), so I guess homophobia is out.

Breeding for a particular task is okay because they want them healthy, breeding for looks is what I was getting at. edit: Wait, so homophobic men are basically aroused by pretty much everything equally (assuming there's some undefined standard deviations). And the dips and rises don't correlate with the X axis labels, it should be a bar graph. It's like she went out of her way to make it nonsensical. I loved the fact that the x axis is continuous but the labels are not, too. Why make a line graph at all? This is a pretty textbook example of someone who has no business critiquing a scientific paper.
