admins need to beware though

they are basically advertising that they are going to move a train set to a different side of the room. Just don't act surprised when there is a "rain man making waffles" style poo poo flipping when things become slightly different and the autists here can't cope with change.

plural noun: analogies
a comparison between two things, typically on the basis of their structure and for the purpose of explanation or clarification.
"an analogy between the workings of nature and those of human societies"
a correspondence or partial similarity.
"the syndrome is called deep dysgraphia because of its analogy to deep dyslexia"
a thing that is comparable to something else in significant respects.
"works of art were seen as an analogy for works of nature"

You see, from the high amount of autism present in these boards, making any kind of change (rules / procedure) is going to cause people to lose their minds.

Compare this to moving a train set across a room (something harmless to normal people, which causes an autistic person to lose their mind, which normal people can't understand)

Popular media portrayed this type of phenomenon rather well with Dustin Hoffman in the popular and well known 1988 film Rain Man, where in an iconic scene he has an autistic fit on Tom Cruise over something trivial (making waffles.)

Also important to note is that jokes are less funny when you have to explain them to literally retarded people that can not understand them

i think at the end of the day you gotta work with the community you have, not the one you wished it to be; at best you can nudge it

NuGBS didn't pan out super great because the forum had naturally developed from a half-content generator, half-discussion subforum that played it fast and loose to a mostly discussion subforum that was self-policing when it came to poo poo like excessive bigotry or w/e. NuGBS tried get more content generation back but it did it in a roundabout way by trying to be fast and loose again like how it used to be.

The self-policing wasn't really a huuuuge issue blocking content creation even if it is hard to find a balance between letting irreverent caustic humor slide and eliminating shitposts and edgy junk humor that's makes all but the most racist of grandpas uncomfortable, the real issue blocking content was that the (internet) community had changed. Unless your site is heavily trafficked it's hard to expect a photoshop thread to pass a hundred submissions because for most users the internet is quick fix for easy consumption and it requires minimal participation. I think other sites have embraced that situation, places like imgur are centered around the odd oc submission with most of its community contributing through quick replies (or reposting someone else's content) and many other sites use a similar format. Attacking the self-policing didn't deal with the real issue - it probably made things worse by changing the status quo that regulars liked and visited the subforum for. If the site is looking to make changes, swiftly forcing them probably isn't the answer.

The self-policing was a huge issue because it turned everything into a humorless bore of constant RSS "be offended" porn lorded over by the exact people you would never want in charge of a loving popsicle stand.

By user count, GBS seems like the most popular of the general discussion subforums by an overwhelming majority. Is there a bunch of hidden traffic that I can't see?

Around that time GBS was still in SJW mode. I remember a thread where a number of goons were arguing that child rapists should be allowed to work in schools again after their sentence had finished (debt to society had been paid blah blah blah).
As soon as Aatrek got doxxed the same people wanted him perma banned, burn effigies etc.

I was just there like :smug: because I am a badass motherfucker.

Doobies was one of the greatest thing to happen to SA. It was very much like when bernie supporters on reddit were giving up their families food budget to the campaign.

If anyone says SA has a smarter than average userbase, all you need to do is point them to the doghouse thread.

It went way off the rails when we tried to take down Reddit, and since we were doing it from a social justice angle (getting the southern poverty law center involved) some goons heads dissapeared completely up their own butthole. And after we "won," there weren't really anymore big targets so people just started sniping at each other in the most blatantly obnoxious "holier-than-thou" way I've ever seen. Those people had to go, because it just became ridiculous and humor can't survive in that environment.

That's the way I remember it, anyway.

idk if you'd remember Lowtax, but you gave me this title when I posted in QCS asking if there was a way to hide fyad/make it's title something else when it was a major game of thrones spoiler, and you did it after mocking me. It wasn't like I was mad posting either. I mean I don't really care about the title, but thats the sorta thing that encourages the stuff you don't like about the forum now. It was pretty clear you did it to try make me get mad too. I didn't, but it did honestly make me not want to browse sa anymore, and I doubt I'm the only one

It's like what dudes were saying earlier, banning all the bad posters drops the population but so does allowing those bad posts to drive good people away. People don't want to put up with annoying poo poo like spoilers in forum/thread titles and they especially don't want to put up with getting mocked for finding it irritating.
