SpaceX Rocket Core blew up on the pad right before a static fire test. https://twitter.com/PointyEndUp/status/771336568380481537/photo/1?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw Hopefully, the AMOS-6, scheduled to launch on the 3rd, wasn't already mounted.

Some poo poo he did ; Helped French resistance make bombs after he was shot down. Shot down 5 planes in 1 flight, 2 of the kills from causing the planes to fly into each other. Shot down an ME 262. Broke the sound barrier with 2 broken ribs.

Dude was legit as gently caress, there is like a weird rear end aura about him that just makes you wanna shut the gently caress up and focus on every word he says and action he does. I never really had too much hero worship for the guy before then, either, but when he walked in to the room their was a gravitas that just hit everyone in there like a truck. It's like Fonzi, Eisenhower and Jeremy Clarkson all three created an idealized version of masculinity. Dude is beyond cool.

I have a Manual published by the Air Force that tracked NASA and USAF/US Army rocket failures. Yeah, we blew up a ton of them. We also learned a lot that SpaceX benefited from.

He has a little pedestal built from some bricks that he props the launcher on. It's been going on for a couple days. Frosted Flake posted:It looks like they downplayed how hard he is in The Right Stuff. I'm a fan of the movie, but the book goes into more detail. The movie is bookended with Yeager breaking the sound barrier at the start and then the f-104 crash at the end, and with Dennis Quaid's "who was the best pilot you ever saw" question clearly implying that Yeager was really the ultimate, rather than any of the astronauts. Here's an interview with Yeager regarding the f-104 crash: http://www.check-six.com/Crash_Sites/NF104-YeagerInterview.htm
