How do you tip strippers with coins?

And the U.S. has had several dollar coins over the years. None of them caught on. Because of the stripper thing, I assume.

Are there apps so you can just do microtransactions with a stripper? Make it rain by holding down a button?

At least in Boston and NYC, any change you get from refilling a subway card comes out in dollar coins. It feels like hitting a slot machine jackpot when you add $2 using a $20 bill and get 18 gold coins back.

IIRC the old Susan B Anthony dollar coin fell out of favor because it's almost the exact size and weight of a quarter. I've gotten a few of them back as change instead of quarters before.

American money in general is outdated, everyone else uses different colors for different bills (and sometimes even different sizes so blind people can tell the denominations). Also the material: I was amazed at Canadian money last time I visited - you can't tear it, you can get it soaking wet, etc. Compare that to our monochrome-green paper bills. (I know the newer bills have some color in them but they're still pretty uniform).

If you are able to read numbers, knowing how much an American bill is worth is pretty easy since it's printed on all four corners of both the front and back. Anglosphere and Euro bills are even uglier than American ones, and having different sizes makes them annoying to properly stack if you have mixed denominations. The indestructible thing is something the US should adopt though, along with a full transition to digital payment.

Canada had an issue with so much counterfeit money that most places would barley accept a 20$ note so I stopped using cash. The only place I've seen that are cash only are farmers markets or shops run by Mennonites. And I'm positive the Mennonites are using the whole "God hates technology" thing to keep from reporting their real income.

Yes, that is why I specifically said that the different bill sizes is handy for blind people. You know, people who can't read numbers? Also "annoying to properly stack" is probably the most insignificant complaint I've ever heard.

Some countries (Canada definitely) have same-sized bills but braille bumps integrated into the bills indicating their domination, solving both problems.

At a bachelor party in Montreal once I saw some guys lay back on the stage with a coin in their mouth. The stripper would then stand over them, and then squat down to pick up the coin without using their hands.

Though generally the most common way to tip a stripper with coins is either toss them on the stage, or sometimes they have a bucket or something to put them in on the side of the stage.

I go to a tailor to get my clothes fitted. She's a nice old lady who doesn't charge much for quality work, but she got irrationally flustered when I took out a debit card. A lot of businesses run by old people in the US only trust cash or checking.

It's not always a "trust" thing, certain small businesses that are acclimated to fudging their numbers to make taxes easier aren't fond of electronic payments because nothing can be hidden with them. Hell, just last month I was offered to buy something tax-free if I paid in cash instead of by card.

Hell almost a year ago they introduced a weird set of hieroglyphic-like symbols on the foot of card-based payment receipts for restaurants, and had ads on TV talking about the change and made specific mention of the fact that it was to authenticate that the transactions legitimately occurred as mentioned (i.e. it's not a faked receipt) and that the government knows how much tax a specific business owes. Businesses prone to tax evasion of that sort are required to have them here.

Small business that don't do incredibly well have a tendency to be cash-only, because taking credit cards is not a free thing. Credit companies skim a percentage of each credit sale a business makes (for example, those Square readers take 2.75% of each purchase they are used for). When a business is barely scraping by, sometimes it makes more financial sense to take cash only - you're potentially losing some customers, but those are also customers who are earning you a certain percentage less than normal.

This is also why a lot of smaller places (corner shops/mom&pop convenience stores, etc.) will have a minimum purchase for credit cards. It's also why more and more places don't take American Express anymore, since apparently their fees are much higher than the other guys.

why have different sized notes when you can just do the braille thing? if you have two big notes in your wallet with a little one between them, the little one would be pretty easy to miss

imagine there's a stack of what appears to be all large sized bills on the table. You pick it up and tap it against your hand to even the bills out, and a smaller bill from somewhere in between them falls out. If you don't notice it you're out money

"colors are dumb since the numbers are there" is an even dumber argument, if so

Also the braille thing is a good idea but I think it would only work with plastic money, the dots would probably fade pretty quick on paper cash
