I mean, you do get the space jump well before you get the ice beam so you don't need to stand on enemies ever but that's... not how the ice beam in Metroid works

that doesnt matter though, the game wasnt even produced by nintendo so its not like perfectly matching the canon lore is important either

Wow, yeah, this is really good. I feel like the Omega Metroids are a bit too dangerous, and fighting them comes down to whether they feel like trapping you in a corner or not. But besides that, fantastic game.

I love the backgrounds they added. Like all the crazy Chozo ruins and what not. Like goddamn this is exactly what i've been wanting out of a metroidvania

It's worth noting that the people who run Metroid Database suspect this is a fake but they can't be sure.

I keep getting stomped by the first Omega Metroid, even after I went back poking around the rest of the map and found like three or four more health containers.

It takes around 8-10 super missile shots to kill one, so the fight can actually go pretty quick. Battles of attrition never worked out for me.

How do you activate the switches you need to shove one of those orbs that explode if you shoot them with beam weapons when you're not inside the ruin where those naturally occur?

Also I need more super missiles I think I have like 8 max which makes fighting omegas tricky becuase I don't have perfect aim.

Ah, I think I have about 8 Super Missles after I jump over the Metroid and grab the container in the room behind it, so I'll just keep trying to screw up those shots less.

after you activate them in the ruins the little drones will bring the orbs to those locations in the other areas. Use bombs to knock the orbs about.

Huh I would have sworn I'd gone to one after and there wasn't anything there. I guess I'll examine the rooms more closely.

Hopefully there's some super missiles behind them, I have way more power bombs somehow.

One thing AM2R does that a lot of Metroid-alikes fail at is that the power ups come at a good pace and each one feels good. It's a minor thing but it helps a lot.

If i ran out of super missiles i just rained regulars on the omegas. Even hit their back opening a few times.

Still the hit like a truck and took me a few dozen trys which got annoying since the save aas a ways away.

The normal Metroiding is really good but holy poo poo are the boss fights unfun gimmicky dogshit.

What a letdown, you would think with all the time spent on it they would actually know how to make a good boss fight in a series with a lot of fun ones.

Apparently the AM2R DMCA was legitimate. drat.
At least someone managed to delay things long enough for the game to get out into the wild.

I actually loved all the non-Metroid boss fights. The Torizo fight in particular was amazing start-to-end. I love how it still had that incredibly weird-looking awkward backwards jump, too.
It's just that the Metroids all felt a bit bullet-spongey, and the Omegas could corner-trap you at will if you made any errors at all.

Yeah. Good thing the devs had the bright idea to have a torrent be one of the download options.

I've found Alpha Metroids by far the most frustrating to fight so far, they're a pain to hit because of their tiny hitboxes and erratic movement and I take a ton of hits myself because they track your movements so quickly, Gammas in comparison move and attack like normal enemies and so aren't half so frustrating.

Also echoing that Torizo was really good, it's a good cut above most of the actual 2D Metroid boss fights for sure.

Alpha Metroids can be pretty easily stunlocked just by getting them into a good position and timing your shots. They'll keep bouncing back so repeated shots wreck their face if you get them into a position to shoot them.

The Omega metroids suck but every room has a ledge where you can hide from them and wait for them to move. There's no reason to get stuck in the corner.

I actually tried that, but then one hit me anyway and knocked me into the next screen over, refilling their health when I came back.

My only problem with the Omega Metroids is they have no variation. Up until that point most Metroids have a new gimmick which changes how you fight them slightly and the all the Omegas are identical.

I wonder how final those animations are supposed to be. They look mostly ok just... a bit lacking in energy maybe? The katana one in particular doesn't look great.

Nintendo officially dmcad the am2r guy so he cant release patches i was thinking what if he just changed some names and color pallettes and released it as a parody of metroid? All those porn parodies get away with using ips after all.

I'm glad they left it alone long enough for him to put the first patch out which included some rebalancing on the Omega Metroids that allowed me to actually beat them and the game. It was a lot of fun.

Also I played through Castlevania IV recently and need to apologise to my good friend Simon Belmont for calling it "trash" compared to Rondo earlier in the thread. It's not as good as Rondo (or CV3) but it is a cool and fun game and I only said it was trash because I was stuck at one point and speaking out of frustration.

Mirror of Fate has more in common with Prince of Persia, if anything. Lots of environmental traversal with simple fights spread through it.

I feel like it shits the bed the least of all 3 LoS games but I doubt many agree with that.

1 is entirely too long and its opening stages are slogs, and 2 is just bad.
