Can we stop talking about cars and talk about porches instead? Anyone know anyone with a huge deck for entertaining that wound up having to tear it all down, or paid more for one than their house?

For my wife's birthday she is going to get into a Porsche Boxster and drive around a track for 90 minutes. And then, here's the GWM part - park it and drive home in a normal car that doesn't destroy itself over one bad bearing.

Advisors often have very little visibility into how a company is operating. I now insist on seeing board slides and talking to more people, but it's often "someone who has coffee with the CEO and their name on the website" in exchange for a taste of equity.

Moneyball posted:Can we stop talking about cars and talk about porches instead? Anyone know anyone with a huge deck for entertaining that wound up having to tear it all down, or paid more for one than their house? I had a coworker who had a big deck. I think he installed it himself. He's a real DIY guy, but he follows no regulations or anything. So a tree falls on the powerline at his house. When they come out to fix it, they say his deck is WAY too close to the powerline. He either fixes the deck, or he needs to pay for the underground line. He asked if he was allowed to dig the trench himself, and they told him no So for the last 8 months, he's had like a 60 amp line just run across his lawn to his house as a "temp" line. He also once was driving to work and his brakes completely gave out that he replaced the other day and he had to drive into a ditch or some poo poo. I'd feel sorry for him, but the dude's a raging conservative.

My household was denied a large tax refund of $13,000 this year, so we took a 0% balance transfer of $10,000 to take care of an expense we knew would come up in October. Now, we have been paid the tax refund unexpectedly, we have the $10,000 transfer coming to my account, and the tax refund will take care of the big expense. It's all very great news, but now I have a $10,000 balance I can take advantage of until July 2017 with 0% interest. In July, I will have to pay back the $10,000. The fee for the balance transfer was 2%, so I will pay $200 for access to the cash. I would like to do something smart with the money while I have it, but since this is a short-term challenge, I didn't see anything very helpful in the sidebar."

Well, it has now caught up to me when I tried to get approved for a mortgage and was approved for $60K. That is not going to get me anything practical. Below is my financial situation. I don't have a savings as I am always paying minimum payments to get by. Credit is poor (620-630) due to the charge off and the high balances on credit cards. You have an allowance for a personal vehicle, clothing, furniture, and can keep a house depending on whether it's ch7 or ch13. The computer he might have to sell depending on the value, I think, but generally I think that would be included in the personal possessions allowance. E: he probably pawned it or something
