Wow, so. I was going to comment on how dead the thread has been since Sunday? And now it's picked up just to beat a dead horse (Star Citizen). What's funny is that you feel superior right now in this thread?

Did you know that prolonged (ab)use of zolpidem tartrate (Ambien) can cause persistent psychosis and neurological dysfunction on par with amphetamines? http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4354222/ Naturally, this comes as no surprise to anyone who's been paying attention.

Were your sample and control groups both drawn from the collective pool of EVE players? I think there might be an unexplored correlation.

hello i would like to return to last page's topic please kickstarter is both Good and Cool because it allows people who normally have 0 (zero) chance of getting any manner of substantial investment to raise capital for projects that the people providing the capital want Gift/Reward-based crowdfunding (kickstarter, indiegogo) operates with the explicit assumption that you are taking on a high risk of not recouping your costs when you donate. That is why the donation amounts tend to be so small - you are spreading out the net financial risk across a large number of people who are not likely to be severely financially impacted when it goes south. If you want a guaranteed ROI, buy some loving bonds. Kickstarter fills an important niche because it not only allows people to raise capital, it allows them to demonstrate interest so that proper investors feel more confident in providing VC

I back kickstarter in the sense that I enjoy the stupid drama that comes out of it. Speaking of which, what happened to redoing that book that people got emotionally charged about? I quite liked that one the first time around.

Say what you will about Star Citizen, that Alpha 3 demo at Gamescom was legitimately impressive. I say this as somebody who has done nothing but at the entire project for the past four years.

ChickenWing posted:kickstarter is both Good and Cool because it allows people who normally have 0 (zero) chance of getting any manner of substantial investment to raise capital for projects that the people providing the capital want Kickstarter is now being used as an excuse to push off the costs of doing something onto someone else and it's starting to get frustrating. The guys who made the shadowrun game put out a good product for the kickstarter. But now they've moved on to another property and instead of re-investing the gains of the previous project to put out yet another good game they have kickstarted again. It's basically risk free business and it's stupid as gently caress and it's really playing out hard with star citizen. Chris Roberts if he was answerable to a real company full of adults would have been raked over the coals by now.

Reverand maynard posted:except there is literally zero legal oversight Avoiding legal oversight is the only reason Kickstarter et all exist. They avoid the ambit of securities commissions because people depart with their money up front, and will never be getting it back. There does need to be a change as far as the refund policy goes. Specifically, it should be abolished entirely. It is dumb and unenforceable. Its existence results in the mixed message that money might somehow come back. As to your call to regulation, what do you propose? How do you fix broke brains who will throw away their live savings so they can feel like a big shot in the community dedicated to a non-game?
