It's at eighty turns now, or whenever you trigger the imperium requirement. Looks like 4 provinces aren't enough in that case.

Uh... Kupo?

I just beat a campaign having lost my Stirland's Revenge unit in a suicide charge into the heart of vampire-dom around turn 30. I never got it back, nor any other RoR's. I also tried buying a RoR unit and then immediately disbanding it and I never got the chance to buy them back. It's very unfortunate.

For anyone thinking about this DLC, the added units are the bomb dot com, Arch Lectors in general are great generals to add to Empire and the flagellants are actually pretty useful despite their lack of missile resistance. The trick is to use them like faster, stronger zombie units: disposable tarpits. They're also good at charging into a flank and loving up some non-armoured infantry, but I've been using them as tarpits and man they work well in that role.

Zearoth's Empire vs Trujillo's Beastmen: I was certain that those trees were going to waste all of Zearoths rocket shots, but I guess you never know which trees block shots and which don't (just like in real life). You can't really afford to dawdle at all when faced with those rocket launchers; Sammut was fairly bunched up with his army so that was a brutal approach. But the mortar was a a lot of points on top of the hyper rocket launcher, Zearoth could have bought some more infantry instead. The Greatswords need to have gotten stuck in sooner, once Zearoth knew most of Trujillo's army was going that way he could have redeployed his good troops and just left a few spearmen behind to guard the artillery. It seems like the glory days of the humble Empire spearman may be over since they nerfed their attack speed, the Greatswords couldn't salvage that fight when every spearmen unit was being butchered by Gors.

Zearth's Dwarfs vs Trujillo's Vampire Counts: Wind of Death got nerfed but it's still nasty. It's Dwarfen stamina vs VC regeneration here. Zearoth had two units of inf ineeffectually attacking a ghost lady for most of the match when those troops were desperately needed elsewhere. Might have been better off destroying the cavalry with those Gyros too before focusing on the infantry, and some Slayers wouldn't have gone amiss. It's cute that even Trujillo's cavalry had regeneration.

Weird, with my current vampire campaign I've both disbanded and lost RoR units left and right and they've always been available to re-hire a turn later or two, I also recall recruiting the Tattersouls over and over again in my Empire campaign.
Most RoR units I've used as a last minute reinforcement to win tougher battles, besides some special case ones I rarely keep them around in armies due to the extra upkeep they cost and them being instantly recruit able later again if I need them.

What's this age of peace thing? is it some of you guys are just marching to Kieslev and just doing cock blocking against chaos?

Also,

What do you guys use for army composition early game and late game?

Right now for Dwarves:
Early:
Lord, Thane, 8 Warriors, 8 Quarrelers, 2 Grudge throwers

Late:
Lord, Engineer, 4 Warriors, 4 Iron breakers, 4 Quarrelers, 2 grudge throwers, 2 cannons, 2 thunderers. I'm not a huge fan of gyro copters but maybe someone can explain why i should use them.

Alternatively, you Man The gently caress Up and shoot them with your artillery and ignore the fact that tortured souls are currently consuming your frontline in blazes of hellfire.

Then you raise the difficulty from Easy and get owned and bring Gyrocopters

In the days before I started bringing Gyrocopters I remember fighting this epic battle against a Chaos stack with 3-4 Hellcannons. I was able to beat the main army but then I had to rush my entire exhausted army to kill those unbreakable rear end in a top hat. I beat them, eventually, but there were a lot of dead Dwarves that match.

Mortars and hellcannons will absolutely rip up your poo poo as dwarves now. Send your copters in to melee them.

Im playing a conquer-anywhere mod campaign and Estalia is the third strongest faction in late game and loves bringing 3+ mortars against me. Ive actually lost battles in this campaign, its amazing.

When the main Chaos invasion is defeated, you get an event called 'An Age Of Peace?' which completely changes how the AI behaves. With the threat from the north dealt with, all the factions that previously had the Shield of Civilization affinity trait to make them band together become suddenly Unreliable instead and lots of intra-human wars break out. Also it can lead to things like the temporary alliances between the Vampire Counts and humans to fall apart.

I've been doing this in multiplayer, too. Chaos almost always bring hellcannons against dwarfs, so I make sure to grab a few units of brimstone gyros rather than my own artillery. Chaos has a ton of trouble dealing with air and your gyros can outrun and pick apart flying Chaos leadership if you micro carefully. Melee down the hellcannons and shoot their knights, chariots, or chosen (in that order). The bombs also do a ton of work against their infantry blobs now.

Unrelatedly, any tips on the Strigoi quest battle for Vlad? I can't burn him down fast enough before I get swarmed by the respawning enemy armies.

I have really come around on spider cavalry and I am convinced they are loving great. Better than boar boys. They are way more mobile by ignoring terrain, have vanguard deployment, are pretty fast and their poison attacks let them catch and devour routing units. Having five of them against dwarves is hilarious as they rope around the lines and butcher artillery and thunderers while your main line moves in for the kill. Two arachnaroks and a giant make up for any deficiency orc infantry have against dorfs

I've been having a ton of success as dwarfs against vampire counts in multiplayer. I think the dwarfs are really a viable faction now and I encourage more players to give them another try in multiplayer.

Here's an example replay for funsies. All the VC players are trying out the new, expensive carts and stuff, which are amazing targets for your quarrelers, thunderers, and cannons.

Beans Bretonnia vs Yuk's VC: Odd decision by Beans to go after the Dire Pack with his flying brigade. Once Yukitsu surrounded them with cavalry they weren't going anywhere. The peasant line might have fought off the Grave Guard with a bit of support from those Grail Knights, since the Grave Guard were on the ropes at some points. Otherwise the Brets were unlikely to win a blob-grind and Beans should have sought to extricate himself from it earlier.

Beans Empire vs Yukitsu's Bretonnia: Personally I think the Royal Air Force has had it's day. Pegasus Knights are very expensive and fragile for their mobility advantages whereas the Realm Knights are reasonably fast themselves. Yuk's peasant line had some reasonable success slaughtering Beans more expensive missile troops but lacked the knights to finish the job. Bretonnia's problem is that they are super predictable. Beans knew he simply had to deal with the elite flyers/cav and brought the tools to do just that.

Beans Empire vs Yukitus's Chaos: Good practice by Beans to chase fleeing fast cav off the field with his flying general. They rally often enough that you want to make sure they are really gone. Spearmen just suck now, I don't think it's possible anymore to make armies of 300pt chaff backed up by all the good stuff. You'll have to actually bring swordsmen/shielded spearmen at the least to form a competent front line. With Yukitsu's Forsaken severely outclassing spearmen it was up to Beans to kill them all some other way but Yukitsu mamaged to keep all of Beans good units occupied. Beans laser-chariot micro was pretty good.

This means that the finals will be between myself and Beans.

I'm keeping track of the tournament so pardon my question here. I haven't seen a mention of a winners and losers bracket in any of the posts so far. Seems a bit odd for a 16 player tournament, no?

quote:

Rules are as follows:
Funds and unit size: Large
Timer:20 minutes. No stalling or evasive behaviour for the sake of achieving a draw.
Map: Karak Azgal for the first match. The loser decides what map to play in subsequent rounds.
Best out of three matches to decide the winner of each round. Post a replay.

Was there always a winner and loser bracket like a swiss style tournament? Sorry for the confusion just wondering where I got mixed up.

What I've noticed is Trees work amazingly well at blocking artillery shots because a tree hit will effectively negate the shot. This would also work well for archers firing INTO trees. The down side I can see if unit LOS can be blocked by trees as well and you can get "OBSTRUCTED" warnings on the units if you are getting blocked. It'll take some testing to find out if the 2+ units which are behind the tree count as being blocked by the rest of the units.

dont put your mortars in forests because the shells will arc into a tree right in front of them and blow up in your face

i don't know if it can hurt your gun crew but it sure does suck when one or more mortars are sitting there obliviously expending ammunition doing literally nothing
