I'm not sure a larger vehicle exists/is on the road without special permits. Actually doesn't 10' wide require a special permit, or at least the whole "wide load" shenanigans?

Especially if it's done in full-Jeep style. :swoon: Sort of the ancestor of the Local Motors Rally Fighter, or whatever it's called (the car body on a prerunner chassis.)

Yeah, one of those was my first car, and the vinyl face wood rots to look like the paint on that one. That big orange spot on the driver's door is the vinyl rusting.

Also mine got 13mpg AFTER I fixed the leaky fuel pump. The AMC V8s had all the torque, but not so much the efficiency. OTOH, parts are cheap, because it used the ECU/carb/distributor/alternator/starter and solenoid/AC compressor/brakes from a Ford pickup, the Mopar 727 transmission, and Dana 44 axles. Pretty much only the longblock, frame, and body were built by AMC, everything else was overruns from other marques, depending on year (in the '70s they had GM TH400 transmissions, in the '60s Buick engines, etc.).

I had one in Wisconsin I loved. Two things were great about it though. One, it was unstoppable in the winter. Two, when you pop the hood most of the bits underneath said "JEEP" on it which was cool as heck. Plus it was a wagon so of course. And you are right there is no way in hell it gets 30, 19 is more like it.

What a great car it was.

e. Also the MkII 16v scirocco had a direct linkage, not cable, so I'm pretty sure that's an 83 8v scirocco.

All the 020s including the 16v ones were cable operated clutches. The only difference on the 16v gearbox was some minor sizing changes to accommodate the power difference.

Can't remember where I learned the phrase, maybe here, but "Prison Car" seems the only way to explain this time capsule. Joey did something stupid and got put away for 15 years, the car sat in Ma's garage ever since. If this had been out in the wild between 2002 and today, you'd at least expect it to be slammed an inch from its life with sawsall'd fenders, flat black, sticker-bombed windows and "only needs a starter and a clutch" in the listing.

Speaking of which, how do you register a car as something that never existed? Kit car rules? I had assumed that all of those projects where you cobble a couple different cars together were registered as one of the donor cars, not the resultant one.

When my truck got stolen, i found out it was registered as a "Ford SRW" because the lady at the DMV picked the wrong part of "ford f250 SRW" off the bill of sale to type into the computer.

We don't have titles and poo poo though. that might make it more difficult.

I've always wondered, do the back doors on those things open? Do they have a tailgate?

I still want one either way. Back doors would be nice, though, like the hole for a golf bag in the side of some fancy '30s cars. Or the little round hatch in the side of old tank turrets to pass shells in instead of lifting them all the way up top to the people-hatches; instead of taking my suitcase in the front and lifting it over the seat to the behind-the-seat area, just toss it in from the side.

I used to own a 1997 Blazer and it was without a doubt the worst vehicle I've ever owned. Let's see here....
-blew a transmission
-2nd transmission was on its way out when I sold it
-Replaced three fuel pumps (gently caress YOU GM) and finally the harness
-Windshield wipers wouldn't work when it was wet out
-tons of electrical gremlins
