i've never broken a headphone jack/socket, but i've lost lots of poo poo, and tiny unconnected-to-anything earplugs are gonna get lost :(

Nope. 3.5mm jack works fine. You broke yours because you're clumsy. You will also break anything plugged into the Lightning plug.

You're blaming the design for your own faults.

Keeping poo poo simple is an important design principle. Replacing something that's simple and works fine with two tiny buttplugs in a little coffin is antithetical to that principle.

how the gently caress can you break a 3.5mm port and/or plug in a device that weighs 5oz? do you have the phone clamped down on the edge of a table and karate chop the plugged in headphone plug?

this connector designed for form factors that existed in the 60's is surely a good use of space on devices 50 years later that no one could even comprehend at the time -- a child with a tiny brain

Yep, simple. Works great for it's intended purpose, and there's no reason to place it with something less convenient for consumers.

wires are great; you can send sound through them and you can power speakers to play that sound. i don't get the whole "wireless" thing people seem to be into

This argument only makes sense if you think there's no practical limit on thinness, but the iPhone 6 bends with normal use.

I don't need my phone to have the most space efficient high contact area audio port, I want the one that I can plug everything in existence into without an adapter.
