Anyone know a lot about Doze? I've been trying to find answers to a couple of questions but I've had no luck. Does Doze: Use Wi-Fi to get it's messages, or does it use mobile data? download/install app updates on Google Play? (and whether or not that uses wi-fi or mobile data)

Is it possible to sideload OTAs on the Nexus 6P without using adb? I can't get my device to be listed by running 'adb devices' and I can't be arsed to gently caress about it, but I remember on a lot of phones you used to just be able to dump the zip on the root of the file system, reboot into recovery, and flash it from an option in there. I tried it on my 6P but I only have 2 options - install from adb, and install from sd card. Choosing the latter option gives a failure to mount sd card, which seems fairly obviously given that the 6P doesn't have an SD card slot. So is there another option I'm missing? Or do I need to mount something first, or something like that?

So is Qi charging just not a thing anymore? I'm at the point where I'm looking to upgrade my Samsung Galaxy S5 and I was kind of hoping to get a new phone with Qi. I got shockingly use to not having to fuss with cables and just plopping my phone down on the pad when I got home in the evening.

I'm going to keep charging it only if I'm in the same room and awake.

I sold my Nexus 6P today in prep for an iPhone 7 and I'm currently using a Moto E 4G I bought for use for navigation and music on my motorcycle. It's surprisingly snappy for a 50 dollar phone but my god how did anyone ever use such tiny phones years ago like this, gently caress my giant hands and cramping.

I pulled a disturbing amount of very compacted pocket lint out of the port, revealing the grounding (?) pins at the bottom and allowing the cable to be inserted about a millimeter deeper. Much better now.

My pet theory is Samsung will throw in a little more RAM and upclock the processor a little bit, call it the Galaxy Note 7S. That would compel consumers to swap and it would be easy to sort out if your phone is going to burn down your house or not with the S.

It's official. The CPSC and Samsung have released statements telling all owners to power down and return their Note 7s immediately. That's what a recall *is*, though. Saying "This product is too dangerous to be in the hands of consumers". There's obviously negotiation going on with the company beforehand -- the NTSA didn't demand that all Takata-airbag-containing cars be repaired immediately, because it was clearly logistically impossible to pull that many cars off the road. Apparently Samsung was unable to satisfy the CPSC that their exchange plan was adequate to ensure safety. Probably because of the reasons listed in this thread: no fast, reliable way to distinguish a recalled phone from a reissued phone. A blue mark on the box it was sold in doesn't help the airline know if it's safe, and doesn't help somebody buying second-hand know if it's safe. And it's possible that Samsung just couldn't satisfy the CPSC that the phones they wanted to issue as replacements were absolutely, positively safe. Presumably all this will leak in the weeks to come. The headline on Samsung's press release is pretty hilarious, though. Nothing to see here, move along posted:Samsung Confirms Engagement with Consumer Product Safety Commission in Response to Note7 Battery Issue "Engagement". So that's how you say "getting curbstomped" in Korea. Good to know.
