It kind of makes for a fitting, albeit extremely dark, TDIET. That does happen all the time and I'm sure people exposed to it constantly probably see a cynical sort of amusement in it. More worrying is how the police and judge handle it-trying to convince her not to press charges, calling it a family dispute, that sort of thing. I've seen a psa from around the 60s(or maybe older) that was basically a psa for wives to have their husbands lashed and sent back home instead of imprisoned for physical abuse.
