Bloody Hedgehog posted:Yeah, but that means you live to 90, instead of 80. Seriouspost: It's about maintaining quality of life. How do you think this guy's day-to-day existence is like compared to the average octogenarian? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nWW6vTML3qk For myself, I've had intermittent non-specific back problems my entire adult life (i.e. since I was 18, am now 43). Back in the 90s the common wisdom was that the thing to do against back pain was to move as little as possible; after much trial and error I have figured out that this was bullshit and that if I am able to pull 200+ kg off the floor on a good day, then even on the worst days I have enough strength and motor control left to move around and do the stuff I need to do.

"I prefer to work out alone. It enables me to concentrate on the lessons that the Iron has for me. Learning about what you're made of is always time well spent, and I have found no better teacher. The Iron had taught me how to live. Life is capable of driving you out of your mind. The way it all comes down these days, it's some kind of miracle if you're not insane. People have become separated from their bodies. They are no longer whole. I see them move from their offices to their cars and on to their suburban homes. They stress out constantly, they lose sleep, they eat badly. And they behave badly. Their egos run wild; they become motivated by that which will eventually give them a massive stroke. They need the Iron Mind. Through the years, I have combined meditation, action, and the Iron into a single strength. I believe that when the body is strong, the mind thinks strong thoughts. Time spent away from the Iron makes my mind degenerate. I wallow in a thick depression. My body shuts down my mind. The Iron is the best antidepressant I have ever found. There is no better way to fight weakness than with strength. Once the mind and body have been awakened to their true potential, it's impossible to turn back. The Iron never lies to you. You can walk outside and listen to all kinds of talk, get told that you're a god or a total bastard. The Iron will always kick you the real deal. The Iron is the great reference point, the all-knowing perspective giver. Always there like a beacon in the pitch black. I have found the Iron to be my greatest friend. It never freaks out on me, never runs. Friends may come and go. But two hundred pounds is always two hundred pounds."

1. My son is 10 and we enjoy doing active things together... I am going to get in on that before he starts to hate me. 2. I sleep better when my back doesn't ache from inactivity. 3. I don't want to be a fat piece of poo poo and the resting state of my family seems to be "fat pieces of poo poo." I do miss.carbs, though. I admit it. Makes me cranky sometimes.

I like lifting increasingly heavy things, making progress, and the frustration of failing to progress. I need that contrast or I stagnate. Having a consistent schedule helps me immensely in other areas of my life. I can also eat more, and I don't feel like binging on 6000 kcals of ice cream and cookies everyday. It's fun, too. My mom had a heart attack at 45. She didn't work out or eat healthy. I don't intend to repeat that. I still have her lovely genes, but I'm hopeful I can put off the issues until I'm 60 I don't expect to LIVE any longer than her, but I do hope to be agile and mobile longer than her. Also, muscle is dead sexy. I'd miss them if they were gone again. defaultluser fucked around with this message at 23:14 on Sep 13, 2016 |
