Cardboard Box A posted:Dash Rendar showing up with the same personality and demeanor as Brave and the Bold Aquaman would be great Maybe another side effect of their environment that causes their blood to glow slightly. Or it could be just a description that got misconstrued, "glowing" could mean more like Thrawn emotes in a way that you notice he's looking at you and not actually light-emitting or light-reflecting. Rebels seems to made his eyes looking bloodshot instead of glowing red. The whole thing with the Chiss is that they're human or supposed to be human enough that they can enter and be apart of the humanocentric Galactic Empire, which openly discriminates against and enslaves other alien races. It's why I think the blue skin and red eyes is either an environmental condition like argyria or a minor mutation.

I think they removed the glowing pupil-less red eyes because ostensibly it's a kids show and that would be terrifying.

So I just saw it and the only thing I don't like about the movie was explained when the credits rolled and was reminded JJ Abram's name was under DIRECTED BY: This is like the one clear example of where this kind of modern shaky cam cinematography is completely not needed. Also some scenes felt downright poorly shot and most of the ones off the top of my head WERE IN CGI. Why doesn't it work? Because I actually want to see what's going on. The coolest part about Star Wars is Lasers, Laser explosions, Cool ship designs (design in general) and the even bigger Laser cannons bristling from them. Even during chase scenes it's just out of character for a movie like this. Other than that less use of the traditional Star Wars Scene transitions kinda annoyed me too. There are little nitpicks here and there but compared to what the original movies were and what the prequels were this is a solid entry into Star Wars history. That's just putting the negatives out there first. HOLY loving poo poo I LOVE THIS MOVIE. I disliked not one character, the pacing was great, the action was loving amazing... and just Kylo Ren. Also the first order is WAY more badass than the Empire ever was. Seem to really have their poo poo together. They did a decent enough job building up the framework of a cool galaxy while making the focus on the characters. I loved Simon Pegg's Cameo as well. The subtext behind them stealing the Falcon from him whether intentional or not was great and probably not lost on Pegg either.

I dont agree with most of any of that but the worst scene to me is the opening one because it looks really poorly done in a way im not movie savvy enough to quantify, it's flashy but the set feels really small? There is a lack of a sense of scale and it just seems cheap like the sort of amateur stuff you could maybe find the wires and a boom mic if i looked hard enough, even if that's not the case it does have that feel. The movie gets a lot better after, but it was jarring in the theater and it's jarring on rewatch at home.

It's just one of the few things where if you didn't have iconic Star Wars stuff it wouldn't feel like a Star Wars movie. It ruins a part of the aesthetic for me. This is kinda eliminated when the universe's design is so unique and prevalent throughout the film that it does make it a minor complaint, even if it were worse. Back on topic: Thinking back, considering it was on a desert planet at night (but still should be well light enough to see background) there were lots of shots that did look like there was NO background at all. I was way too focused on how awesome it was to have new star wars, Kylo, and just lasers. Like the fight (well, the effects) itself was cool, but you are right about it looking indoors. Not to mention there's too much shaky cam and scrambling sequences, not great cinematography like you also said. I really hope they have Cyborged out troopers in at least one of the new movies. It's in the lore and it shows to what lengths the bad guys are willing to go. And they're awesome. http://makingstarwars.net/2016/09/a-brief-look-at-star-wars-episode-viiis-space-bombs-sequence/quote:Today we have a look at a scene shot at Pinewood Studios back in early May. The sequence featured some green screen extension, a CGI crowd, and rig removal. The scene features burning embers, smoke, and boom and bang FX in a hangar. We also have a look at the explosives from Star Wars: Episode VIII in the sequence discussed here. The prop is essentially a thermal detonator of some kind belonging to a group codenamed “The Grizzlies.” The “Sugar Cubes” and “The Grizzlies” needed up to an hour and a half to get dressed and be on set. It seems the “Sugar Cubes” are likely First Order Stormtroopers so the time to get ready isn’t that extensive considering what that would entail.

Daisy Ridley did a recent interview where she explained that her lineage will be revealed in Episode VIII, and that Jyn Erso isn't her mother. Although that last part could just be a case of trickster god-ism that she caught from JJ Abrams during the filming of VII.

I like the theories (unconfirmed as far as I know) that the big reveal at the end of Episode VIII will be Luke telling Rey "I killed your father!" which is a nice symmetry with the original series.

We’re going to share our preliminary findings from back during the filming of the movie and the rumors sources have given a quiet thumbs up to. While this information is not particularly deep, it at least fills in tiny details to who they are on the surface in the next episode of the Star Wars saga. While we are in full Rogue One mode here at MakingStarWars.net right now, we are constantly asked about the three new characters in the film played by Benicio del Toro, Laura Dern, and Kelly Marie Tran. We have heard lots of interesting things and those rumors need a little verification still but we know you want to know some details now.
