Seeing that raw milk thing, was the story from a few months back where a bunch of raw milk supporters were like "Hey, look how good raw milk is for you" and then they basically all got salmonella or something true?

WrenP-Complete posted:Yes, but my question is why? If we don't have effective treatment or intervention, why would we notify the person or their family? It's also massively condescending to think that we should talk to the family of someone with an illness rather than them, but setting all of that aside for a moment. We can continue via PM if this is derailing the thread? Nah don't worry about it, I'm still sleepy and it was mostly random spitballing, so I'm done after this post. Oh also I don't have plat, so that factors in. As for why, as ineffective as 95% of interventions and treatment are or whatever amount it might be, 5% is still more than nothing. And I agree it's condescending and somewhat contrary to patient rights but of all mental illness I'm sure paranoid schizophrenia is near the bottom so far as direct acknowledgement of the issue goes. If you tell them they might have an issue and should talk to someone about it, that's just more evidence that They're out to get them. It's like the gangstalking people mentioned, literally brick walls to anything that doesn't reconfirm their existing suspicions. e: really though, also, your experience sounds interesting, you should consider a thread about in Ask/Tell. I know I'd like to hear about the overlap of psychology and computational linguistics analysis or what have you, as well as the microdosing study. Even though they definitely weren't selling it for human consumption and encouraging people to drink it. Not at all.

Xen Tricks posted:Nah don't worry about it, I'm still sleepy and it was mostly random spitballing, so I'm done after this post. Oh also I don't have plat, so that factors in. Forgive me for continuing and potentially worsening a derail, but the temptation is too much. There are cases where an individual is incapable of functioning in society, but many of those cases stem more from past experiences and do follow a logic that, while influenced by the mental illness, is rational. Delusions of gangstalking, for example, can stem from someone being the victim of bullying by different groups who have no connection but pick on them for the same thing and/or do similar actions to them, coupled with little, no, or, worst of all, bad therapy. The reason people with mental illnesses are reluctant or even against seeking therapy is the label "mentally ill" has an extremely negative connotation in society that can make you a pariah even when it's being treated. This is compounded even more so for schizophrenics; the fact the average person thinks having schizophrenia is enough grounds monitor someone on a near constant basis if not remove them from society essentially proves they're right to be paranoid. That's why your idea of going around the patient to get treatment is not only bad, but counter-productive.

None of those things really indicate what she's willing to bring to a relationship. Do these people ever think, "hmmm, maybe it's a bit selfish to expect my future partner to cater to my every whim?" Also a partners sole quality being "they put up with me" isn't terribly flattering either.

I thought that more than 1/10 men were rapists. Hm I think the study I read was about if men would say they would rape if given the chance without getting caught (like 40-50 percent) rather than had raped (maybe 10?). Edit: I spent 10 minutes looking into this, and various rape statistics are way too contested to be able to draw conclusions. WrenP-Complete has a new favorite as of 20:59 on Sep 21, 2016 |

Pshh, i don't see what you guys are up in arms about. Saving thousands of lives with a 1-in-1,000,000 chance of terrorism is exactly the same as going on dates with a 1-in-10 chance of being raped.
