Can some Oregoon please ask this dork if he was in the military and record the answer. I am willing to bet real american dollars the answer is some variant of 'quit boot camp 6 weeks before finishing but the Commandant himself said I can call myself a Marine' or 'recruiter told me i'm too tough for the marines'.

Azathoth posted:It's not about the prestige, it's about the toughness, at least for scrawny losers like the one in that picture. They're not physically intimidating, but they really love to shoot their mouth off, yet without their guns, they know that they would lose any actual fight, so they claim to be Marines because everyone knows that all Marines are tough and can kick anyone's rear end and no one fucks with Marines. It's everything that they want to be, but aren't, so they go play dress-up (seriously, love that description) and claim to be something they're not because although they may not be tough, people treat them like they are. The idiots for whom it's about prestige invariably claim to be Navy Seals, Army Rangers, Delta Force, Green Berets, etc. This is what I looked like in Iraq in 2005, after about 5 months: I was a diesel mechanic, pressed into duty as the head of the base sentry section in a fairly remote infantry/tank outpost without running water. I saw a tank get flipped over by an IED. I watched through my scope as a guy buried a bomb in the road, but we couldn't arrest or shoot him because he came from an Iraqi government 'mineral factory' and to do so might cause an international incident. These cosplayers and wannabes would poo poo their pants and cry if they had to actually leave the safety of their tough guy internet forums. Or kill themselves. Or shoot themselves in the foot and try to get a purple heart (literally happens). And i consider myself an absolute pile of poo poo coward compared to OIF/OEF infantry/tank dudes and most vietnam & WW2 veterans. My neighbor was a machine gunner in vietnam, guy on my fire department was a flamethrowerin vietnam, My friend's dad was a tunnel rat in vietnam. I am nothing by comparison. For stolen valor animals, it's not enough to be an admin clerk, mechanic, bulk fuel specialist, or any of the support roles that make up 95% of the military, that's why the almost universally claim to be some kind of high speed black ops murder machine, because they want to be the star of the show. Stomping the guts out of these scumbags should be considered the moral imperative of every citizen.
