This all leaves me wondering if Vive and Oculus are supposed to ban porn. Otherwise they become associated with an industry that degrades women.

Main issue with VR games right now is there's a dearth of good content, which you probably can't say about porn. That's about the extent of my opinion on that. Well, teledildonics is a good word also. e: Has anyone said Oculini Riftler yet?

Why do you care so much if he doesn't have anything to do with VR anymore besides tweets? Like if you are selfish and want Oculus to do well because you've hung your dollars on their hardware and software that's fine but you don't have a right to Oculus being healthy outside of people that are associated with it (including their bad opinions) like what is sort of happening right now. If Palmer is as unimportant as you say then you should be lolin with the rest of us. If you are mad at other people's opinions then you should also be mad at Palmer's. If you are a Trump supporter and think sjws are real then at least own it and be proud of your opinions. If you just want to be contrarian just because you think it's cool then everyone can see through that and thus we're all laughing at you.

Cojawfee posted:And you seem like an overly sensitive tryhard who likes to feign outrage by making GBS threads up threads with the dumbest poo poo. Company boycotts have a long history of changing company policy. We even had a recent example of getting an execrable human being ousted from a position high within his company by using public pressure. It's my opinion that active racists, homophobes, and other hateful bigots should not be employable in the US. They should be publicly shamed and their employers pressured until they are forced to quit or stop supporting hate groups. Obviously this isn't feasible in a wide scale, but having highly visible victories like that is important in showing that supporting hate groups is not OK in the US in the 21st century. Personally I'd be happy with two resolutions: either Oculus should publicly disavow Palmer's statements, fire, and distance themselves from him; or Palmer should publicly apologize and donate at least $10k to some charity for disadvantaged children or something like that. Either resolution shows that supporting racism is not acceptable and has consequences. Regarding "any boycott ever is stupid," you may be interested in the Montgomery bus boycott. (No, I'm not saying refusing to buy high-end toys is on the same level, but demonstrating that boycotts can be successful.)

Yikes. Do a news search for Oculus and it's all "founder supports Trump meme group." They can't be happy about that. Has Oculus released a statement yet? Connect starts in a few weeks, and I imagine they'd like to get this settled before then.

Oculus should totally open themselves up to a multimillion dollar lawsuit (under CA law) by firing a man for his off-time political activity. They should probably acknowledge this happening in a press release and write "die cis scum" in the text. Anything else is unacceptable. I am a reasonable person.

The thing that actually legitimately pisses me off is that I would like whatever becomes of the larger VR network that is in the process of being created ("The Metaverse") to be an incredibly diverse and open place, and you're sitting here being real excited about the social implications of technology to bring people together and then VR Steve Jobs is like "just one more thing..." and puts on his klansman robe and hood. Very excited about the VR internet being Whites-Only AOL, presented by Oculus.

Luckey basically got his title as part of a severance package.)

Maybe I was just being too subtle before with my "he has nothing to do with vr anymore" posts. This is the VR thread, not the "racist man baby sucks poo poo and is racist" thread. I don't care if people hate Palmer, I hate him too. But what he did has nothing to do with vr. People are free to go to a Trump hatedump thread in D&D and poo poo all over his racist memes. I just don't see what it has to do with vr besides a casual mention that it was him. Turning this thread into a debate about unchecked Muslim immigration and racist memes doesn't do anything for someone who wants to talk about and learn about vr.

The founding principle of Oculus: to create a product for people in Africa to escape their lovely lives. "Wait", Palmer thinks to himself, "What if we could actively makes people's lives worse..."

If they don't they're both admitting that they do consider these views acceptable, and that someone who represents their company publicly is a liar. This doesn't actually mean he should be fired, though, and I don't think he will be. A sensible response would be to move him to a role where he is no longer authorised to represent the company publicly, and I think this is probably what they will do; the only question is whether they do so quietly or whether they make a big deal out of it.
