Wait. Are you saying comic book readers can't relate to grown-up adult relationships?

Or using their body to get what they want?

Gummy Bear Heaven ... It's where I go when the world is too mean.
Yesterday I went to a bookstore appearance Kate Beaton was having to promote her new book. At one point, she had the kids design a warrior with her. After drawing the head, they get to the body.

Kate :eng101:: What should be on her shirt?
A young boy :v::A sea serpent. Wait, no, a snake!
:eng101:: What should her weapon be?
:v:: A sword, but like a snake, that shoots portals to the dark dimension out of its mouth.
:eng101:: Does she have a belt?
:v:: A snake belt!
(Kate drew a belt and wrote "SNAKE" on the buckle.)
:eng101:: Pants?
:v:: Snake pants!
(Kate's giving up at this point, just draws armored pants and says that the squiggles are snakes from far away.)
:eng101:: Okay, and we need some kind of shoes.
:v:: Snake boots!
:eng99:: You have a lot of good ideas, but let's hear from someone else.
(Ends up drawing cowboy boots.)

Five minutes later.

:v:: I like snakes.
:eng101:: That is the worst kept secret here.
:v:: It's not a secret!

The kid later went up and drew snakes on the cowboy boots.

That Spider-man letter reminds me that Avengers issue.... 11? 12? Has a letter angrily declaring issue 9 to have RUINED THE AVENGERS FOREVER. I loved showing it to people who thought insane fans just came about after we got the internet.

Oh, right, forgot that the squiggle on the snake's head is a ninja tattoo. I mean, a tattoo of a ninja, not a tattoo that a ninja would have. Cause it's a badass magic dark dimension portal shooting snake.

IIRC, the "46" is a postal zone number ... kind of like a proto-zip code system that started during World War II and stayed in use until the USPS switched to zip codes.

Angel holds up well if you don't expect The Wire (and ignore 90% of anything with teen Connor), and the 5th season is probably my favorite run of genre television ever. Aside from the Harmony-specific episode I find every single one a winner.

And yet Firefly gets all the praise even though it was only ever "pretty good."

Firefly gets the praise because it only got one season so it never had a chance to disappoint us.
