Although I find that most people who THINK Republicans care about their tax rate don't actually make anywhere near enough for Republican policies to benefit them, if those who make that much money are single-issue voters and that issue is their money, then they ought to vote their interests. I wish every American actually got informed on facts and then voted their self-interest. We'd be a lot better off. Edit: I mean I'd love it if people gave a poo poo about people other than themselves too, but self-interest voting would work just fine.

Paul MaudDib posted:The US is still using F-15s. The airframes today are significantly modernized compared to the 70s-vintage airframes but to be honest there's nothing wrong with fighter jets designed during the 70s. It's not like the laws of physics have changed, slap new electronics on a fresh airframe and it's basically a whole new aircraft. A few years ago an F-15C disintegrated mid-air, and it was determined to have been caused by a defective part causing excess fatigue, resulting in A, B, C, and D models being grounded and thoroughly inspected. They're getting pretty old, along with the USMC's F/A-18Cs. (The Navy already replaced their older 18s) The E models of both planes are significantly different and quite a bit newer, and haven't had these problems (yet). That said, these are reasonably high performance aircraft that get put through a lot more stress than a bomber. They're expected to be replaced by the F-35. The rest of the F-15s will probably be retired when the US either restarts F-22 Raptor production, or starts building the F-22's replacement. B-52s on the other hand are a slow moving bomb truck that were in production for several decades, and are technically quite old. But after arms reduction treaties a ton of them were partially scrapped or put in the aircraft boneyard. The B-52s still in flight have had a lot of their parts replaced from these scrapped planes, and are basically flying Ships of Theseus. I can't really speak to the age of the other two components of the nuclear triad though. Concordat fucked around with this message at 05:16 on Sep 27, 2016 |

We have enough missiles in the ground and at sea to annihilate humanity. And unlike bombers there is still no "counter" to a ballistic missile.

I've been seeing some Trump supporters desperately claiming that Holt didn't ask her difficult questions, but the cybersecurity question was such an obvious setup about the emails that he completely hosed up. He seemed legitimately thrown off when she said she made a mistake earlier, like it's unfathomable for someone to admit they were wrong.

That bit at the end where he basically said "Hey, Donald, why don't you insult and spit on your opponent to her face since she's right here?" Had to be intentional. Holy poo poo, he had to know exactly what would happen when he asked Trump "You've said some mean about your opponent, is there anything you'd like to say to her now that she's here?" I'm pretty sure Holt was fed up with Trump and that question was 100% plantedjust to make him look like even more of a sexist idiot.

I would agree about B-52s not being particularly important in the triad, since they require uncontested airspace. B-2s on the other hand...

Aineris posted:Alright, so I'm kind of an intentionally ignorant voter, and I've never really weighed in on US politics before. I've been staying out of the political game for a long time now, because ultimately I have a distrust of the US media narrative for a lot of different reasons, most of which are probably valid. I've also lived in Seattle most of my life, so nobody really gives a poo poo what I think because our state will go with whoever is the Democratic candidate regardless, and it truly does not mater who I support. Anyway, I mention this all because I really came into the debate wanting both candidates to lose, because I didn't initially respect either one of them. I was previously planning on voting third party as a protest vote (Jill Stein). Furthermore, I've always hated the presidential "debates" because I've felt that it's merely a pulpit to spew talking points rather than any serious analysis of whatever the issues of the day currently are. Anyway, I came out of this thing as a firm Hilary supporter, and I'll vote for her now. I don't really agree with her 100%, but I think she'd be good enough. I mean, that's good, but why the gently caress would you originally vote for Jill Stein, the one candidate who might be worse than Trump cause she's that much more of an idiot moron rear end in a top hat

nooneofconsequence posted:Are our airports really that bad? gently caress no. TPA is a drat fine airport and I'd imagine it isn't even in the nation's top 5. Trump continually flies between Ft. Lauderdale and Newark, probably. Not that they're bad airports but that dipshit probably uses backwoods "executive" airports in ex/far suburban areas where nobody gives a poo poo. You want a scary airport? Lukla is a scary airport, not in terms of human security but because it's a poorly paved, inclined strip that ends in the side of a mountain on one end and a cliff on the other. You have to have perfect conditions to fly in or out, so flight ops will get halted for days at a time. It has 4 parking spots for planes, and you basically have a choice of maybe 3 different types of turboprop that can handle taking off on that runway at that altitude.
