A lot of glaring errors, too.. Sandy Bridge was in all the Early/Late 2011 MBPs, Early / Late 2013s had Ivy Bridge and Haswell. Late 2013's had 802.11ac, too. Far as I can tell, it's a modded up HP EliteBook 820 with an SSD premastered with the usual patches.. be interesting if they get Sierra to run on it, that would flip Apple's lid.

Trip Report... Rebuilt my Hackintosh with GA-Z97x-UD7 th, (Haven't bothered to try to get the thunderbolt working). Used the Tonymacx86 new clover unibeast/multibeast. Wasn't super intuitive, but I do feel like I have a slightly better build now, boots up much quicker... Still took a bit to troubleshoot. On a positive note, their new iMessage guide worked perfectly right away. Now hopefully everything works out. I'll be reinstalling everything. So far so good.

Has anyone upgraded to 10.12 yet? I have a pretty flawless install of 10.11 thanks to the guide at the start of this thread, but because my SMBIOS is set to MacPro3,1 I'm unable to upgrade to 10.12 through the App Store.

Just got a new (to me) computer secondhand on Gumtree. One of the selling points was the Gigabyte motherboard, planning on doing a hackintosh install in the near future. I need to get Bluetooth and wifi working on it, having a quick Google, would I be best off buying a Broadcom BCM94331CD-BCM4331 + this specialised PCI-E adapter for it? Am trying to keep things budget, and it seems like it'd be a rock-solid option. Also, would these work in Windows? About to head out to K-Mart to buy a 10m Ethernet cable because I was used to everything coming with built in wifi, this is my first desktop in like... 10 years. I might also look into replacing the video card in the future (1GB Radeon HD5450), what are some good bang-for-the-buck low to medium range cards with good OS X compatibility? At least several recent builds of Clover have serious issues, with some people saying anything newer than 3469 is bad. Most years the Clover people have this stuff figured out during beta and have it running at daily driver level by release, but this version has been especially messy. Doesn't help that MacPro3,1 or whatever it's called that most people were using was dropped. Apparently people who had iMessage working under that profile had to lose it to upgrade.

Also bear in mind that Apple is now using Metal as the main graphics API in macOS Sierra, deprecating OpenGL. Metal requires newer GPUs to get the job done. If you don't have the following GPUs, Sierra may run perceptibly SLOWER than El Capitan did as it will hand off screen drawing to CPU based routines. nVidia GTX 6xx (preferably 650 and higher) AMD Radeon HD 7xxx (preferably 7950 and higher) Intel HD 4000 and higher

I guess it's more of a battery life thing than cpu usage but the laptop does get a bit hot under load. ~50c idle and maxes out around ~80c After I disabled turbo boost in the bios because it was regularly hitting 95c at its most loaded.

I was able to upgrade to Sierra in-place by first mounting EFI with Clover Configurator and switching my system definitions from MacPro3,1 to iMac14,2. I have a weird motherboard so its been a long time since a hackintosh install went so smoothly like that.

The Apple of the 90s was very different from the Apple of 2016 though, right now they are making money hand over fist through the app store and handheld devices and the Mac platform is becoming dangerously neglected. OEMing the "old" desktop platform would be a much lower risk if they did it now. Although with eGPU really starting to mature I think I could survive without a traditional tower. Hook your laptop or mac mini up to a GTX 1080 and connect that to a bunch of large displays and you are most of the way there.

I have a rather odd issue with my setup that keeps occuring. After enough time my mouse cursor will stop changing to different states. Aka hovering over a link, changing to the text selection, and it will not longer produce "hover" actions like bringing up the dock. I can still click on things or click where the dock is to sort of register where the mouse is to unhide it. A restart always fixes it but occurs at least once a day. Anyone run into this issue before or know of a potential way to troubleshoot?

Best of my knowledge, the preferred boards use what Apple does in real Macs to keep compatibility high. I think stuff that Gigabyte does with UEFI makes it easier too, but I've been out of the loop for a while on that stuff.

I was bored so I installed Sierra on my desktop, it seems to be running well except it goes to sleep but never wakes up. I've read it's a common thing with AMD graphics cards and I've tried the one fix of turning on the integrated graphics but with no luck. Does sleep work under El Capitan, or should I just prevent it from sleeping entirely? Specs: i5 4670k Gigabyte B85M-D3H Radeon 7970 e: Only way for sleep to work is to enable the integrated Intel GPU and set it as primary. Sleep works now, it's just a kind of a pain in the rear end. I'm going to be upgrading my desktop PC in the near future, and I'd rather it run macOS. I'm in no dire need, my old one is just starting to show its age. I assume it's worth holding off to see how things shake out with Sierra and for Apple to actually release new hardware that'd improve compatibility with Skylake/other stuff? HAAAAALP!!!! So I boot my computer and suddenly now I get the apple logo and a big NO sign. I boot into verbose and I get: Error allocating 0x1e71a pages at 0x000000001cd960000 alloc type 2 Couldn't Allocate runtime area Boot Failed, sleeping for 10sec before exiting. Strangely, I could actually get it to boot if I did force wake from hibernate. So I plugged in my trusty USB clover key, and I couldn't boot... Seemingly same error? I've also been getting very wierd crashes. where it dumps to ascii text, and just now, I couldn't boot, I'd turn on to ascii text. ANY IDEAS what is happening? Also strangely I'm able to boot with caches disable... but now my internet is broken. Wiiiierrrddd. That might be able to get me through the day. I'm also occasionally booting to a blinking cursor with no mobo. blerggggg. I don't want to have to buy a new mobo.
