It's not a lie if you believe it.

Like, I bet if you had Donald Trump hooked up to a lie detector (a magic one that actually works, not a real world one) he wouldn't set off the thing once in the whole debate, because he legitimately believes everything he says is true even if it contradicts something he's been saying for years or even something he said five minutes ago. His brain just will not let him ever think he was wrong about something, so he rewrites his own memory, as well as the facts around him, to believe whatever wacky thing has just entered his head.

It was an early preview, the full Newsweek story's supposed to drop overnight.

Maddow also dug up footage of Trump telling a Cuban-American group he would never do business with Cuba seven months after doing business with Cuba so that should help as far as the "It's not a scandal until someone's lying on videotape" angle.

Actually, that'd suck.

Trump is terrible for the Republican party, and can continue to be terrible if he survives this as a way of tanking any hope they have in the future of moving past the old white demographic.

Like sure, Ryan and the rest will cast him aside as a fake prophet that misled the flock, but he'll always have believers. And if he can energize even 5% of the Republican base to turn against the establishment post election, Republicans will be guaranteed a loss moving forward for all future elections until they actually do pivot.

If Trump gets arrested/found as corrupt/super jailed immediately after Hillary gets elected that has the opposite result. The Republicans can throw him under the bus safely and have no issues. His true believers will believe it was a hardcore Clinton conspiracy and rejoin the flock. Rather then stay divided/infighting, the Republicans will unify.

I think this what's gonna happen. He has pissed alot of assholes with power. Especially established Republicans. Anyone with half a brain know he's made them look like fools.

They can't go after him during the election without making it look worse. Soon as the spotlight fades the knives are coming out.

This is the Trump way of thought. In his mind he's always right, so if he says something, it must be right, even if it's ridiculous on face. Why would he say it if it weren't true? Cmon. He's Trump.

This lets him, in his mind, get away with literally anything.

To be fair Trump is 70 years old, at least somewhat wealthy, has been an incredibly successful television star and is now a candidate for President of the United States.

By all metrics he HAS gotten away with literally anything. Even if he went to jail tomorrow it's after 70 years of staggering getting-away-with-anything.

That's what I mean. His psychosis is such that it's being fueled by the success that he has had, so he literally can't think of anything that will allow him to fail because thus far he hasn't (nevermind that he has suffered several significant failures in his life, he can just ignore that entirely and make up the narrative that he's been a 100% winner for his entire life)

Hey, so a quick question about actually voting:

My absentee ballot arrived today, and having not lived in my home state for almost a decade, there are a lot of local races that I haven't had any visibility on. Are there any good voting guides out there to provide a quick rundown of the different candidates on a ballot? The national level stuff is easy enough to research, but my Ohio ballot has about two pages of judges, and I'd like to at least make a token effort to pick the "not a total sleazeball" option if it exists. Every campaign website naturally depicts its candidate as a steely eyed master of judicial propriety, so a simple google trawl doesn't work very well.

I found the League of Women Voter's guide, http://www.vote411.org, which seems really helpful but half the candidates don't have any info there. In the past I feel like the Cleveland Plain Dealer has done some good election guides, but I can't seem to find anything this time around. Is it maybe just too early? Do I need to wait a while? What if I get hit by a meteorite before I mail my ballot? :derp:

This is true. A week or two ago I was talking with my grandmother and aunts and mom about politics, and eventually brought up Trump almost definitely being a rapist and possibly even being a child rapist. After a bit of argument, they conceded that he probably was a rapist... And they were still going to vote for him over Hillary.

There's nothing he could do to lose his support with some people.
