The other guy gets it. You lose face if you owe other people anything because it shows the other person is better than you and you dont want that. On the macro scale, you want to show that you are a strong country and have every other countries' respect at the bargaining table. On a more local level, this also means you want to fight tooth and nail to pay for other people's meals when you guys go out to eat.

Whenever you talk to the Chinese about the famine and all of the problems Mao and his group caused you get these typical answers: "He was human. Humans make mistakes. Let's not think of bad history. We can move forward. Also, gently caress the Japanese forever for what they did to us! They should all die!"

Ever asked them where they'll get a large quantity of their entertainment once all the evil Japanese are dead? There's only so much they can copy before it runs out.

they get their entertainment (movies, tv shows, music) from south korea and their porn from japan.

they get a lot more than that from abroad, it's just usually in the form of ripoffs rather than licensed content

Chinese domestic TV is: Game/dating shows copied from South Korea/Japan. Costume dramas about the Tang Dynasty or other historical periods when China was cool. 1930s shows where plucky Chinese go around killing the Japanese. Journey to the West retreads. If there are exceptions I've never seen them.

reddit says that there are approximately several million mobile games based on romance of the three kingdomsquote:On ads this week I've seen: Three Kingdoms Saga, Pocket Three Kingdoms, Three Kingdoms Romance, Xiao Xiao Three Kingdoms, Dynasty Rush: Three Kingdoms, Clash of Three Kingdoms, Three Kingdoms Heroes and even one called 后宫三国 that features the big titted concubines of the Three Kingdoms. In that one you can slap the women about to increase their submissiveness.

Oh yeah for sure. I don't know if that should be its own category or part of the historical one since Romance of the Three Kingdoms is a mix of fiction and history.

That's why I get my China news from NYT, HKFP and Sinocism, as these three have so far stood against the economic censorship China likes to emploly towards foreign media.

Some poll type questions I did in Thailand: -Favorite food (can't say Thai) -Country you would like to visit (can't say Thailand) In general in my classes I would say that for the speaking activities you had to lie. Of course for the country unit that leads to one girl saying she is from France then a guy pointing at her and saying "NO! U ARE FROM EGYPT HAVE BLACK SKIN 55555" and she goes hehehehe and I'm sitting there going good lord you guys are twenty years old.

Naver. I think something similar happened with uber too, although uber is kind of a scummy company so I don't know if they were kicked out to make room for kakaotaxi or if they just ignored all tax regulations or something.

gently caress Kakaotalk, gently caress Naver, and gently caress Daum, this whole country is a ringing argument in favour of globalization.

There is normally a rope tying the legs together so that there is a maximum angle they spread at. I've seen guys "walk" their ladders dexterously while straddling them and it is actually very impressive and efficient.
