A Sinister Rap posted:The game was called Cry On and was also being co-developed by Mistwalker, Hironobu Sakaguchi's company that he made after leaving Square. And though I remember hearing that it was supposed to be connected to Drakengard, I can't find an official source at all. Sakaguchi did put the trailer on his YouTube account in 2014. Cavia was working on it as co-developer, and it shared the same character designer as Drakengard, but that's where the connections end. And it would involve golems, but was otherwise unrelated. ![]() ![]() After last week's rather intense update I think we have to cool off a little bit. It's time for another double update, because we have a lot of sidequests to take care of. Even though we pick up a grab bag of different sidequests, we still managed to make a themed episode out of it, sort of. Once that's done, we're heading back to the Forest of Myth to take care of the Deathdream once and for all (presumably, at least). ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Quest Logs: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

You talked about the base looking like the twin towers and how it was probably unintentional. Well, maybe not. http://www.siliconera.com/2014/03/20/nier-drakengard-creator-says-nier-inspired-9-11/ (spoilers) quote:Later in the panel, Yoko moved on to discussing Nier and some of the ways in which that game attempts to move the player. For Nier’s design, he revealed, he was deeply influenced by the events of 9/11 and the world thereafter. The way it's inspired by 9/11 might be a little spoiler-y so I'm not including it (it's in the article, as are some other significant spoilers, so read at your own risk), but there is a pretty good reason.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Whew, we finally made it out of the forest! But before we get a chance to sit down and drink a cup of hot cocoa we already get embroiled in another adventure. It seems like Yonah has gotten in contact with the owner of the creepy mansion near Seafront, and they desperately need our help! So we're gonna head over there to meet--among others--my favourite character in the whole game! Heads up: the sound isn't super great in this episode. Ikwaylx had the washing machine going in the background and it ended up doing a number on his commentary track. I did my best to salvage it and while I ended up with something listenable, it's not perfect. I caught up on the Nier episodes and figured I'd try playing Drakengard instead of watching the videos. Two levels in I realized it's one of the worst games I've played, so thanks for the plot videos, don't think I could suffer trough that game.

Your drakengard talks got linked in the dark id's setsuna thread. what a great walk down memory lane ![]() A Sinister Rap posted:Also I wonder if Ending B was ever intended to be the default/canon ending, though my only real basis for that is that the credits theme for B, Exhausted (Japanese) / Growing Wings (English) is the only song with vocals and basically turned into Drakengard's main theme, showing up in 2 and 3. fairly certain Exhaustion only became the series leitmotif because it is amazing. here are the other versions, since they're all worth a listen: Drakengard 2: Growing Wings On the Holy Land The Broken Past Drakengard 3: Exhausted Growing Wings (DLC) ? ? ? ? ? the music in drakengard 3 isn't as consistently amazing as NieR's, but the soundtrack's still worth a listen to anyone enjoying the music in this lp (you should all be enjoying the music in this lp ![]()

Back near the start of the game, Devola explained the meaning of the Song of the Ancients as telling the story of the White Book fighting the Black Book to save the world or some such. Fitting that it becomes the battle theme for this showdown.

I just love how desperate all this feels. When you're first playing, you obviously don't realise that, as long as you reduce its health to 1, everything will be fine. All you know is, this juggernaut Shade is headed to the library, you're little more than an inconvenience to it, but you're gonna make drat sure it will go no further. And then everything gets worse and worse with no sign of it stopping. You go from small moments of triumph as you keep hacking away at this titan, pummelling Grimoire Noire to get your spells back (which is so satisfying) to being utterly crushed as you realise it was all for nothing.
